It's simple really. If a parent does not want the fetus, then they should donate it to stem cell research. Hear me out on this.
Stem cells can be used to treat anemias, cancers, child leukemias, cornea regeneration, crohn's disease, diabetes, heart disease, krabbe leukodystrophy, liver cirrhosis, lupus, lymphomas, myelomas, multiple sclerosis, paralysis, osteopetrosis, parkinson's disease, rheumatiod arthritis, sever combined immunodeficiencey syndrome, sickle cell anemia, spinal cord injury, stroke, systemic vasculitis and more.
And a single fetus can have hundreds of applications. So aren't you saving more lives by choosing to abort than by choosing to force a child to grow up an orphan?
Not to mention all the negative affects of being orphaned. Children raised in orphanages have an IQ 20 points lower on average. Nearly 25% of youth aging out do not have high school diplomas. 10% - 15% of orphans commit suicide before they're old enough to age out. 60% of girls become prostitutes and 70% of boys become criminals. As of 2005, 1.2 million children are traff---ed every year.
Are we really doing these children any service? And if we force the parents to keep them, are we doing ANYONE any service? The outcome that is most globally beneficial is simply abortion. Hundreds of people saved and only one growth removed. -
@teresa --- you misinterpreted theperson. She meant the only case in which she thinks abortion is okay is if the mother would die if she didn't have the abortion.
I understand that. But life is a greater gift than anything. The mother shouldn't kill the baby just because it will be going through major stress during its life. And anyway it's not her right to kill it because it isn't her property. -
Bob: Although I am much more in favor of adopting out babies, donating them to stem cell research is a much better idea than getting an abortion.

I don't think it's the mother's right to do that. Those "cells" are their own property and have their own chance to live.

Ange, stem cell research isn't an alternative to abortion. It's the next logical step.

@Mark Like James said, if it goes through so much stress it kills itself it's just more death all around. Plus at a fetus stage it's not even a person. It's a collection of cells in a woman's body which she has every right to do whatever she wants with it. It's her body, she controls it, it's hers. The fetus cannot think or feel. They're not their own person. And just because people have a chance to live doesn't mean they get it. Criminals have a chance to turn their lives around, but instead they get a needle in their arms. Most people are perfectly fine with that and it truly is murder.

The argument that cells are not people yet therefore you kill nothing is one of the dumbest I've heard and I've heard it a lot in this forum (okay that is definitely not dumbest OMFG e-o)
Yes, those cells are their own person.
They are not part of the mother's body, they are a potential individual life.

I'm also going to assume that because of your post that you must truly hate yourself. Because every month you produce an egg. That egg has the POTENTIAL to be a human being. And yet you go ahead and kill it. It dies because you refused to go through with what nature intended and fertilize it. After all, potential people are still people.
