(xD you're all good!!)
"I think that may be our best bet," Tess responded, "if we wanna get her out of here." "Yeah, I want to see what's outside," Ellie retorted, crossing her arms across her chest. "Can't be any worse than in here, right?" -
Joel nodded and made his way to the front door. He looked at the pile of bodies and shook his head. He looked outside back behind him at the armored trucks. He saw two infected stragglers making their way toward them. Before Joel could get the words out of his mouth, the two runners started to book it past the armored trucks. He quickly tried to fuble open the door. "Get inside!!" He shouted, quickly pushing Ellie inside, and aiming the sub-machine gun at one, etting the bullets fly.
-
Tess pulled Ellie inside the building, reaching for her gun. "Ellie, follow my lead and-" He words were cut off as Ellie screamed, pointing back towards the door. An infected had slipped past Joel, running towards Tess. She barely had any time to pull out her gun as it came closer. She exclaimed as she tried to push the creature off her, holding it back with her hands. "ELLIE GET TO JOEL," she shouted, staggering back as she continued to shove it off her. "But-" "GO, ELLIE." Ellie nodded and ran for Joel. Tess grunted as she staggered back once more, tripping and falling backwards. The infected came down on her and grabbed her arms, biting her neck. Tess screamed in pain as she kicked it off her, finally grabbing her gun and shooting it twice in the head. The infected fell to the ground in a thud and Tess stood slowly, aching from her wound. f---...
-
Joel watched the situation unfold in what seemed like slow motion. Once the infected he had been focused on collapsed to the ground, he looked back just in time to see the runner clamp down on Tess' neck. He looked at Ellie, his eyes widened. This couldn't be happening. Not right now, not here. He grabbed Ellie's and, and ran over to Tess. There were tears starting to form in his eyes. He quickly wiped them away before Ellie could see. Joel didn't want to believe it. This all had to be a dream. Maybe if he pinched himself hard enough he would wake up. He would be back in his home with Sarah and Tommy. Life would be okay. He helped Tess up, and placed his hand over the gaping wound. "M-maybe she's not the only one immune. If we get there f-fast enough maybe they'll get a cure ready fast enough to save you."
He didn't want to leave Tess. She was his partner in crime. The one who kept him going, when he didn't feel like it. He could tell she was still in shock. The wound wasn't enough to cause her death, but she was losing a bit of blood. Joel looked at Ellie. "Reach in the bag on my back, and hand me the gauze pads, and a roll of gauze." He said, keeping the pressure on her neck as his fingers slowly started to stain with blood. -
"Joel, just leave me." Tess crossed her arms over her chest, exhaling. "But, maybe- maybe we can fix you-" Ellie started before Tess cut her off, shouting. "NO!" She sighed as she staggered back, raising a hand up to her neck. "I'm- I'm not gonna make it, okay? I can already tell the effects are starting to take over, so if there were ever any doubts in your mind, or mine, that she was lying, those should vanish. You take her to that meetin' place, and save your goddamn hide, okay?" She walked forward and put her hands on Joel's shoulders, shaking as she pulled him in for a short hug. "I love ya, but you've gotta get her there," she muttered, letting go of him after a moment, "because, maybe- just maybe, there's a chance to save this god forsaken planet."
-
Joel looked at Tess, his heart shattering into a million pieces. He couldn't just leave her to turn into one of those things. Before he could even think, he heard the sound of people outside of the building. "In here!" Someone screamed. Joel looked at Ellie, then Tess. He knew she would put up one hell of a fight. It still didn't feel right leaving her there, but he knew in the end Tess was right. Ellie was a statistical improbability, and he had to get her somewhere safe, so at least something could be done. He grabbed Ellies hand, and ran up the huge Capitol staircase.
-
Ellie snuck one last look at Tess, who stood in the way between the two and the voices, gun at the ready. She turned away and kept running, keeping her speed in match with Joel.
-
As they got up to the top of the stairs, Joel ran into the closest room he could find, and slammed the door shut behind him. He could hear as the people outside busted the door down and made their way inside. He could also hear the gun-shots coming from Tess's gun. If there was anything Joel admired her for, it was that she never seemed scared. He shook his hand and looked around the room. There was an open window on the far side, that seemed to lead to another section of the building. "Follow me." He said, making his way out the window, and onto a small section of roof.
"Be careful. If you need to grab onto anything, just grab my back-pack." Joel walked carefully across the roof. He could hear the people that breached the building running through the halls, and checking each room. This was going to be a bit tricky. He kept walking, and noticed a broken window. He peeked inside for a moment. The room itself was a mess, but he didn't see anyone in there. He made his way inside, gun drawn. -
Ellie followed close behind Joel, clutching the straps of her bag. She let go and looked down at her hands, watching them shake for a moment before clenching them. "It's my fault, isn't it?" She muttered, looking up.
-
Joel looked at Ellie, his heart still hammering in his chest as. "No, it wasn't your fault at all." Joel said, picking up her bag, and slinging it over his shoulder. It was a hard hit for him as well, but he had to be strong in this moment. "Tess....." He took a moment to pause, thinking about his next words. "What she did, any of us would do given the situation. It's okay, but remember, it's not your fault."
Joel turned around, and walked through the room in front of them. "Stay with me, and stay close." -
Ellie nodded, a grim expression on her face as she followed close by Joel's side. "How're we gonna get out of here without getting spotted?" She asked in a whisper, looking over at the older man.
-
Joel looked down the halls, and concentrated for a minute. "We are going to have to take out who we can, but we have to be quiet about it." He looked at Ellie, and with-drew his knife. He walked out into the hall, taking cover behind a near-by toppled shelf. He could hear the voices getting louder. He could hope they wouldn't come this way, but one could never know. He stayed at the same spot for a minute, then continued forward toward the end of the hall. There were rooms on each side of him, but he took the one to the right.
He quickly hid behind a shelf, and motioned Ellie to stay in the hall. There were three guards in the room. Two equipped with assault rifles, and the other stayed behind carrying something that Joel didn't recognize. He sneaked around the perimeter of the room, until he was next to one of the men that held the assault rifle. He waited until the other two were just out of sight before he stood up and quickly dispatched the guard. He was hoping Ellie wouldn't have take down one of them, but the other guard that had a weapon was approaching the door quickly. -
Ellie peered into the room, trying to resist the urge to rush in to Joel's side and help him. She didn't have any weapons, aside from her knife. How could she take down anyone? She watched as one of the men walked past the door and she ducked back, watching him for a moment. He turned and faced the other way, his back to the young girl. She slowly stood and whipped out her knife, grabbing the tall man and kicking the back of his leg, causing him to grunt and drop down. She covered his mouth and brought the knife to his throat, slitting it. The man dropped dead after a moment and she stepped away, her hands shaky. f----
-
Joel heard commotion in the back hallway, and he presumed the other guard did as well. The guard quickened their pace and headed toward the back hall, but before they could get there, Joel stood up and made his way behind the guard quickly taking him out, gently leading his body to the floor. As soon as Joel let go of the body, he rushed over to Ellie. He saw the other guard, now lying on the ground. "Are you okay?" He looked at here, and the knife in her hand. He could tell she was visibly shaken.
-
"Yeah-" Ellie started, tightening her grip on her knife. "Yeah, I'm- I'm okay," she finished, nodding shortly and letting out a breath. "Just, a little shaken, but we better keep moving."
