(lol no worries :))
"I was trying to find someone, anyone, I could find to help me," Ellie said, brushing her bangs out of her face. "Then Marlene found me and took me in. I later told her about the bite and she assumed what we're all praying for- that I have some sort of immunity to this breakout and I'm not just lucky as hell." -
Joel wanted to ask more questions, but he didn't. He was looking at the object in his hand, clenching his jaw shut. The silver object he had seen was a pair of dog-tags. On the back, the Firefly insignia could be seen. "I don't know whether to take this as a good sign, or a bad one." He muttered, handing the tags over to Tess. "On one hand, they were here; but we both know that a Firefly doesn't just abandoned their tags." He made his way to the back door of the building and opened it. He could see the daycare fence from here, but now it seemed there was an even bigger problem. Since they were so close to the restricted area, there was a patrol right past the day-care fence. Joel could see they were armed with heavy artillery guns, and flashlights. No doubt they had hand grenades as well. "So, how should we take care of that?" Joel gestured to the group of people that were patrolling the area.
-
"Maybe we try and sneak out? I don't think we can risk trying to rush them, considering how heavily armed they are," Tess murmured, looking over at Joel. "And picking them off one by one could go south, so I think stealth is our best bet here." She chuckled lowly, patting him on the back. "Even if it's not your strong suit."
-
Joel smiled and shook his head. If there was one thing Tess knew about him; sneaking definitely wasn't his strong suit. "Yeah, you're right. But you're going first this time." He said, smirking a bit. "That way if anything happens; you and Ellie can still meet up with the Firefly convoy." Joel didn't want to think of the possibility of one not making it, but the further they ventured out, the higher that risk got. He looked at Ellie next. "If anything happens to me, you stay with her. Do as she says. Out of the two of us, she's the best to get you out of a situation unscathed. Okay?"
-
Ellie hesitated for a moment before exhaling, nodding. "Right. Got it," she muttered quietly. Tess started forward, crouching as she stayed out of sight.
-
Joel watched as Tess and Ellie stayed out of sight. Once they got a fair distance away, he started to follow behind them. He still had his pistol drawn just in case. If the patrol caught sight of them, the best he could do was cause a distraction and make sure they both got away safely. He watched as Tess looked back at Ellie, and motioned for her to move behind a car. Joel took a deep breath as the patrol drawed closer. He slowly inched his way up to an empty compactor bin that was next to one of the buildings. It wasn't far from Tess and Ellie, and it was the perfect spot to cover them just in case, if anything went south.
-
Tess peered out from the side of the car, looking around for another spot to hide. She motioned for Ellie to follow her, going behind another car up ahead.
(i'm so brainded, bruhhh) -
(I feel you, just got back home xD)
Joel watched at the patrol made its way closer, and close to their position. He watched as Tess and Ellie made their way across the street, sneaking behind cars, and blending into the shadows. Joel started to follow the path they had taken when the patrol stopped. One of the people looked at the ground, and picked up something that was shimmering. "It can't be...." Joel muttered shaking his head. He assumed it was a another Firefly pendant. The man looked ahead, and shoved it into his pocket without saying a word. He gave the other people in the groups a signal, and they all readied their guns. Joel felt his heart leap in his chest. As long as they didn't spot any movement, Tess, Ellie and him should he fine. -
(xD fun)
Tess stopped in her tracks, forcing Ellie to freeze. She gestured for the younger girl to stay quiet, her back against the car they were behind. She slowly pulled her pistol out of its holster, readying herself to protect Ellie in case. -
(I hath returned!)
The patrol looked around, and spread out. Some of the people went into buildings, while others stayed outside and kept an eye on the street. Before Joel could even take his next breath, a soul crushing scream echoed around the building. "HELP!!!!! HELP ME!!!!" The voice screamed into the sky. Joel peeked from behind the container that hid him. One of the patrol guards ran from one of the buildings, blood spurting from his neck from a bite wound. There were two infected running behind him. He watched the guards that were outside aim their weapons, and fired. The man that had gotten bitten dropped to the ground first, and the infected dropped not soon after. There was a man at the front of the patrol that blew a whistle, and the remaining officers ran back into formation. "No sign of them." A woman remarked, glancing at the body of the fallen officer. She looked sad, but also seemed stoic in the presence of the man that held the whistle.
"We also found these." Another man showed boxes of ammo and food. Joel leaned back for a moment. It was too far away for them to be talking about an out-post. Maybe the Fireflies had set up camp here. But why would they leave their things behind. As Joel pondered on this, the patrol finished up the rounds they had to make, and soon disappeared into the distance. -
(weba u^u)
Tess let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding in, slumping back against the car they were hidden behind. "f---, I thought we were done for," she muttered, rubbing her face with her hands. Ellie nodded, standing up. "We should get moving, though," the young girl added, brushing off the back of her pants and her knees. Tess nodded, standing to her feet. -
Joel make his out from behind the container, and kept an eye on Tess and Ellie. He moved a little closer to them, and surveyed the area. He walked over to the patrol officer that had been shot, and picked up his gun. It looked to be an average sub-machine gun, and Joel nodded his head. The man also had a pistol holsterd on his belt as well. Joel took it, and put it in his bag. Maybe, just maybe he would let the girl have a gun. Joel holsters his own pistol, in favor for the sub-machine gun, and caught up to Ellie and Tess. "That sure was a close call; wasn't it?" He said, looking at a pair of buildings that were in front of them.
-
"Definitely," Tess replied with a low chuckle, nodding. "Guess we keep going?"
(b r a i n d e d- lol) -
(It's okay, I understand! :3)
Joel nodded, making his way in-between the buildings. He could see the moss that had grown on the side of the building's, the vines that had crept their way to the top, reaching for sunlight. In between the buildings there we several cars they would have to climb over. They all had definitely eroded away over rime. They all made their way over to the first car. Joel hopped on the hood of the first car, his weight causing the car to shift slightly. He held out his hand for Tess, and pulled her up. He did the same with Ellie. "Now, we just make our way across. I just like to think of it like the game Frogger." Joel smiled for a moment as he thought of Sarah.
Joel hopped over to the next car, the items in his back-pack clanked together. He looked at Ellie and Tess. "Well, what are you waiting for, come on!"He waved them over as he hopped over two more cars. -
"What the hell is 'Frogger'?" Ellie asked with a confused look on her face, hopping over to the car Joel stood on. Tess chuckled, shaking her head and following. "It's an old person thing, don't worry about it." "It's sounds dumb as f---," Ellie teased, going ahead of Joel.
