(hey, no worries! i've been pretty busy all day lol)
Tess ran out from her hiding spot, pulling out her gun and aiming for a guy to her left. She took the shot, landing the blow right at his chest. She took a few more shots, watching the body fall after a moment. Another guy shot at her and she flinched as the bullet just barely missed her, dropping to the ground and hiding behind a table that had been knocked over. She poked her head and her gun over the edge, shooting the man who missed her. -
Joel ran from his spot and starting firing at the man that just shot Tess. They both dropped him in no time at all. He looked at the next person, that seemed to be crouched behind a wall at the opposite end of the hall and fired at them. Some of the bullets made it through the plaster in the wall, but some of the bullets found their target as well. Joel motioned Tess to come out from behind the table. "I think that's all of them for now. I just wonder why they are here." He shook his head as he went to reload his pistol. "The most important thing is, are you okay?" He asked, genuinely concerned. He couldn't live with himself if something happened to her.
-
"Yeah, not like they have good aim or anything," Tess replied with a chuckle, standing up and brushing herself off. "And yeah, I wonder why they were stalking this area. You don't think they know something about a certain "Package" being delivered, do you?" She sighed, putting away her gun and running a hand through her short hair. "If so, this just got even more complicated..."
-
"I hope not, but that just might be the case." Joel said, holstering his pistol as well. He walked further down the hallway and spotted the Fireflies insignia. Joel sighed and kept walking forward. Every step he took made him think that maybe taking this job was a mistake. "Marlene!" He yelled, his voice echoing in the halls. So far, nothing could be heard, but they them-selves might be recovering from an attack. "I swear to god."
Joel looked at Tess, and she looked back at him. He could only imagine the mess he had just got them tangled up in. Before he could finish his thoughts, he heard a door creep open. A woman walked out; pistol raised. Joel quickly put his hand on his revolver and looked at her sharply. "Good, it's just you too." The woman breathed a sigh of relief. "It's nice to see you too Marlene." -
Tess gripped her pistol for a moment but let go, seeing the woman. "Hello," she said, nodding shortly. "I'm assuming you're Marlene?"
-
Marlene looked at the girl that Joel had brought with him, and bit her tongue for a moment. She realized now was not the time or place for her to bite back, even though she wanted to. "I am." She left her phrase short and curt. "Follow me."
-------------------
Joel and Tess followed Marlene down the hallway, into a closed, barred off room to the side. "Before I open this door, I need both of you to agree to do this. I cannot risk this operation going rogue, because you don't like what's behind this door." Joel was almost taken aback by the way Marlene delivered that information. He was growing concerned, and a little leery of what this package might be. He looked at Tess, then looked at Marlene. "Alright, show us what's behind this door."
---------------
Marlene removed the bar from the door and unlocked it. The room was dusty, and there seemed to be a chain hooked into the floor. On the other side of that chain was a girl. Her clothes were dirty, and her face was smeared with dust from rubble and debris. -
(gah dayum, dis girl chained up or smth?? xD)
Ellie looked up, seeing two people walk in. "Marlene, who are they?" She asked anxiously, tensing as she watched them step into the room. "I thought you were taking me to the Fireflies, not some f---ing randos." -
(In the series she was, but I don't think so in game. I just didn't think Marlene would leave her free. ;0;)
Marlene walked up to Ellie, a small key in her hand. "First, they are not just randos. Second, these are the people that are going to be taking you to the next station outside the city." Marlene unlocked the cuffs that were around Ellie's hands and looked at Joel. "Proceeding the drop off, and if everything goes correctly...then, and only then will you get your guns."
----------
Joel looked are Marlene, then Tess. "You have got to be f---ing kidding me. When you said a package, I thought you actually meant a package. Not a f---ing human being Marlene." Joel started to pace around the otherwise empty room they were in. "Please explain to me what is so damn important about this girl that we are risking out lives to take her outside of the city walls."
----------
Marlene looked at Ellie, and motioned her to roll up her sleeve. "Go ahead. Show them." -
(yeah, she wasn't chained up in the game, i don't think- i was just majorly confused lol
also ik marlene and ellie were like, friends in the game, i think-)
Ellie exhaled and rolled up her sleeve, revealing a bite mark on her upper arm. Tess backed away, reaching for her pistol. "Are you f---ing with us, bringing us to an infected kid to get f---ing killed?!" "This bite mark is three weeks old!" Ellie retorted, a hint of anger and annoyance in her voice. "Bulls---, that cannot be-" "It's three. Weeks. Old." She growled, her hands clenching into fists. "I don't know why I haven't turned, but I'm not f---ing lying." -
(I'm sorry if that was awkward ;0; In game, I guess you could say they were *kind of*. In the series, it makes Marlene seem more harsh)
Joel stood there, hand on his pistol. That mark didn't look fresh, but he was also hesitant. There has never been anyone that has survived from being bitten. Much less the girl that was in front of them. He looked at Marlene, slightly furious. "So, let me get this straight. We take your show pony to some out-post and try not to get killed." Joel chuckled. "For what, us to just get our guns back? No dice." Joel turned around, and started to walk out of the room.
----------
Marlene watched as Joel started out the door, and yelled after him. "Wait!" She looked at Ellie, then Tess. "Look, I know it's a lot; but I think we have a possibility of creating a cure. Getting rid of the cordycep virus once and for all." She walked up to Joel, who had now turned around. "If you do this, you get your guns back. No strings attached. I'll give you the location and you all can head there tonight." -
(ahh, i gotchu, i gotchu lol
i'm fine with either one interpretation of the chars :)
pretty much up until like, maybe the part where ellie and joel get separated from tess bc she gets bit and tries to hold off ppl from getting to them is like, all i know of the lore xD)
Tess exhaled, crossing her arms over her chest. "So you're serious? She-" She paused, reaching a hand up to scratch the back of her neck. "She's seriously not infected? After getting bitten??"
"Don't f---ing talk about me like I'm not in the damn room," Ellie muttered, shooting a short glare at Tess, who returned the favor. "But yeah, we're serious. I was bit three weeks ago, and I have yet to turn- If I even can turn." -
(I know the basics from the game and series. I want to do an in depth lore dig one of these days!)
Marlene looked at Tess for a moment, then Joel. "She's not infected. We have been testing her every single day. Her brain function seems to be fine, and she hasn't turned yet." She placed her hands on her hips, and sighed. "Look, I know how you feel about going into the out-skirts. It's not that far, and I have a crew of people that will meet you." Marlene reached into her pocket to grab a folded up piece of paper. "Here, take this. This will show you where they are meeting you. For now, you can take Ellie and go downstairs. There is a room where you can stock up on anything you need before you start the journey."
----------
Joel looked at Tess and shrugged his shoulders. It seemed simple enough, but even Joel knew it was going to be a hard journey knowing what lay out behind the walls. "Fine. A simple job. Nothing more, and nothing less." Joel walked out of the room, past the hallway that was littered with the people Tess and him had taken out. There was something about agreeing to this that Joel shouldn't shake. He continued down the hall, and down the stairs and everyone followed behind. "So where is this room Marlene?" He grunted softly.
-----------
Marlene stood behind Tess and Ellie. "Keep going straight, and it's the second door to your right. Should have a couch, and a decent sized cabinet inside." -
"Marlene, I don't like this," Ellie said, glaring at Joel. "How do we know we can trust them??"
-
Marlene looked at Ellie, her arms folded across her chest. "Simple. His brother used to be a Firefly. Said I could call on him if I needed help." Marlene knew this answer wasn't going to be a good one, but it was the best one she had at the moment. She had to promises to keep, one to herself; that she would develop a cure. The other was to Ellie's mom, and that was to keep her safe.
----------
Joel listened to Marlene and the girl talk back and forth for a minute before he decided to jump in. "In short, we are the best damn thing to get you in, and out of the city if need be. We have done this more times than you can count. Plue, Marlene owes us our guns anyway." Joel looked at the girl. He tried not to think to much on it, but she reminded him of Sarah. His beautiful daughter. He still had a picture of her in his wallet. He would take it out occasionally to look at her face. If there is one thing he had learned; time doesn't make a difference when someone is taken away from you. The pain is still there all the same. -
Ellie locked eyes with Joel before groaning, turning away for a moment. "Fine, I'll go, but if I end up dead and the world goes to s--- because we don't have a cure for this f---ing apocalypse? It's on you," she glared at the older man and woman, grabbing her bags and walking towards the door. She turned around, gesturing out the room. "Well, c'mon. I wanna get out of this s---hole as soon as possible."
