"Hey, I'm not that old!" Joel said, hopping onto the car Ellie was on, then ahead of her. "And Frogger is a good game!" He smiled as he looked at Tess. There were two more cars ahead of them, then they would be in the clear. He leaped over to the first one. "If I was old, I could to that." Joel said, proud of himself. The more the girl was with them, the more she grew on Joel. He has to remind himself, they were here to do a job, and their guns back. He hopped over to the last car, then down onto the concrete. He could see the top of the capitol building from here. "Almost there." He said, extending his arm to help Ellie and Tess down from the car.
-
Ellie rolled her eyes, chuckling. "Sure old man," she continued to tease, leaping from car to car. She took Joel's hand and climbed down, following him and Tess as they walked.
-
Joel shook his head and chuckled. "If we follow this road up to that intersection, and make a left; there should be a pair of buildings we can go in-between. After that, getting to the Capitol building should be a cake walk." Joel made his way to the intersection, and looked around. There seemed to be what used to be a gas station to his right. He looked at Tess. "You wanna see if we find any food?" Out of everything Joel grabbed, he didn't bring any food, and be could feel his stomach start to rumble.
-
"You better not jinx us," Tess said with a chuckle, nudging Joel in the arm. "And we should search for food, I don't think I grabbed any either." "Wow, you guys are so unprepared," Ellie retorted, tugging her bag off her shoulders and opening it up, pulling out a few granola bars. "At least I thought to pack something to eat." She handed one to Joel, then to Tess before opening up hers, biting into it.
-
Joel opened his granola bar, and took a bite. His mouth watered as he chewed. It wasn't something he would normally bring, but he wasn't going to be picky. Food was food. He took another bite, then took the bag off his shoulders. He put his sub-machine gun on the ground as he pulled out three bottles of water. That cut them down to one left, but he was fine with that. He handed Tess and Ellie one each, then zipped up his bag. He popped the cap off of his, and started to drink.
-
Ellie grabbed her water, opened it and took a swig, exhaling. "Boy did I need that water," she said with a chuckle. "I've definitely not been drinking enough water." "Well, drink up," Tess said, a small smile appearing on her face. "I mean, we can't bring a dead body to the Capitol to use to possibly cure this s---show of an apocalypse."
-
Joel looked at Tess and nodded. "Imagine it, swimming pools, margaritas and cell phones." Joel chuckled. Life had changed for sure. Now, only the cities had electricity and water. Food was scarce regardless of where you were. Joel took another sip of his water, and grabbed his sub-machine gun. He started to walk toward the two buildings he had mentioned before.
-
"So you're implying I'll get to have alcohol?" Ellie asked, a mischievous smirk on her face. "HA- Absolutely not," Tess retorted, shooting a bewildered look at the girl. "You're like, what? Eleven, twelve?" "I'm fourteen, dips---, do I f---ing look twelve??"

(Sorry I haven't responded! Today has been busy!)
"I mean, you are a kid still" Joel said chuckling. He walked in between the buildings and looked at the empty space ahead of him. He couldn't shake this feeling that something had gone horribly wrong. He just felt it in his bones. He looked at Tess and Ellie. Both of them still seemed to be fine. Joel looked at himself. Maybe it was just his nerves after having that infected coming close to chomping on his jugular. He kept looking forward, and told himself that once they got to the caption building, him and Tess would be home free. Just them, and their guns. And for now, that was all that mattered. -
(you're all good! dw abt it :))
"And you're an old man," Ellie retorted, earning a nudge on the shoulder from Tess, making her chuckle. "Whatever, let's keep going."
(gosh i'm so brainded :')) -
(It's okay!)
Joel just shook his head, and made his way out to the end of the buildings. It looked like the Capitol Building was in sight. There were four armed trucks, but the back of two of them were open. Something about this just didn't set right with Joel. He looked back at Tess and Ellie. "Please tell me I am not the only one that is uneasy by this." He stopped for a moment, partially to listen and partially to observe. -
"You're definitely not the only one," Tess replied with a short nod, her grip on her pistol tightening. Ellie nodded in agreement, moving closer to the adults. "I don't hear anything, but maybe I'm wrong..."
-
Joel nodded, and slowly made his way up to the armored trucks. The closer he got, the more putrid the air began to smell. He tried to close it off from his mind, and kept pushing forward. As he approached the back of the first armored truck, he noticed there was food in the back. It had been setting there for days. Part of the stench was spoiled meat. Enough for a whole convent if needed. There was no way the Fireflies would just leave this. Joel walked along the outside of the truck, his gun drawn. The drivers side door of the truck was closed, but there was a bullet hole in the window. From what Joel could see, it looked like the drivers body was slumped up against the door. "Well s---....." He muttered.
He looked at Tess and pointed to the window, while shaking his head no. He made his way to the next armored truck. This one seemed to be fine. There were no open doors, and no bullet holes. Joel scoured the truck for any signs of movement, or life. After a couple of minutes, he stood on the step-rail that led to the drivers side of the truck. On the inside, there was a shotgun. Whether or not it was loaded, Joel didn't know. He could either take a chance at opening the truck, or just leaving it be. Joel took a deep breath, and decided to peek around the front of the truck. At this point, he was directly in front of the steps that lead up to the door at the Capitol's entrance.
Joel could see something that he couldn't see from the direction they came from. There were bodies piled on top of one another at the Capitol door. It looked like they had been riddled by bullets, but it was hard to tell from here. Joel moved back to crouch behind the second truck. He motioned to Ellie and Tess to make their way over to him very carefully. He didn't know if they were safe or not, but there was one thing for sure; Ellie wasn't leaving their side any time soon. -
Tess and Ellie followed slowly after Joel, making sure to stay hidden in case they were being watched or anyone was around.
(still braindead lol
when should we get to the part where tess gets bit?) -
(If you want, we can have a clicker, or runner show up whenever they are about to head inside! Also, I apologize for my lack of response. I didn't realize it had been two whole days ðŸ˜)
Joel motioned toward the pile of bodies that were in front of the Capitol door. "It looks like someone already beat them to the mark. The more I think about it, the more am thinking it was that patrol." He said, looking at the Capitol doors intently. "The only thing I can thing of is following the highway till we find another camp, but even then we don't know where we would be heading." Joel was seriously thinking about just turning right back around, and heading back into the city.
