Lily nodded half-heartedly. "Yes, I mean no, I don't know. I feel okay, a lot better anyway, but if I do die I just you know-" her voice went all wobbly then.

Anne swallowed. 'Lily, you're not doing to die,' she said with a slightly shaky voice, clutching her hand tighter. 'The doctors will cure you, OK?'

"Maybe they will, maybe they won't. But doctors aren't any smarter then us, they killed my friend Anne, that's how she died" a single tear slipped down her cheek.

Anne moved one of her hands and wiped away the tear on Lily's cheek, and cupped her friend's cheek with the same hand. 'The ones here are. I don't know which hospital your friend went to but the doctors here will make you better. I promise.'

Lily felt comforted by Anne's words. "Thank you, Anne for everything you've done for me"

Anne smiled. 'You're welcome. I'm not sure what kind of person I'd be if I left you on the street like that.'

"A normal one, most people shout at street slags like me, throw apple cores. Still means we get to eat"

'Being normal doesn't mean being kind,' Anne said softly. 'And I'm glad I helped you out. You're a good friend to have, Lily.'

Lily smiled. "Thanks, but I'm really not. The way I treated you earlier, I shouldn't have snapped at you I'm sorry"

'It's fine. I see now why you got so worked up,' Anne said.

Lily smiled, she opened her mouth to speak but just then a doctor came through. "Yoru names Lily right? I need to ask a few questions"

Anne brushed a curl out of Lily's face and looked up at the doctor.

"What is your surname Lily?" He asked looking very posh in a suit and holding an ink-stained pen and clipboard .
Lily looked agape at Anne. She didn't know what her surname was. -
'Johnson,' Anne said quickly. Johnson was the first name that came to her mind, and seemed like a surname a fairly sophisticated person would have.

Lily nodded. The doctor jotted it down and without looking up from his clipboard asked "How old are you Lily?"
"I'm 14 sir"
