Connor smiled and opened the door, leading Evan inside.

Evan stepped inside, pausing for a moment as he listened to the song. “Welcome in! How- Evan! Oh my God, I haven’t seen you in forever-“ the girl at the front desk jumped in, running around the desk and tackling Evan in a hug. “Oh-“ “How’ve you been?” She said, letting go of him to study him for a moment. “Oh- uh, fine. We were just here to pet any new cats you guys might have-“ “What’s wrong with your eyes?” “I-“ Evan sighed angrily, clenching his hands into a fist. “I got into an accident and I’m temporarily blinded, okay?” He said, getting annoyed.

Connor took a step back, the girl’s energy overwhelming him quickly. He kept his hand intertwined with Evan’s, gently squeezing it when he sensed his annoyance.

“Oh, s---, dude, I’m sorry-“ She said, frowning. “How long ago did it happen?” “A few days after the last time I came here,” Evan mumbled. “And who’s this?” “This is Connor, he’s been- helping me- with stuff,” Evan said awkwardly, pulling their hands apart in embarrassment.

“Uh- Hi, nice to meet you,” Connor said with an nervous smile, awkwardly sticking his hand out to the girl.

“Hi, I’m Eloise,” She said with a smile, shaking his hand. “Yeah- uh- we just wanted to hold some cats-“ Evan said, wringing his hands together. “Sure! Come with me.”

Connor moved back to Evan’s side, brushing his hand against the brunette’s as if to ask if it were okay to grab his hand again.

Evan hooked fingers with Connor for a second before pulling away again, listening to Eloise move before quietly following her, something he had learned. “We recently got a shipment of kittens- there six of them~”

Connor exhaled softly, smiling a little and following after Evan. “Ugh, dude, I love cats so much-“ He said, chuckling softly.

“Yeah, and these ones are super cute-“ Eloise smiled, leading them into a room that erupted into meows and squeaking. She closed the door behind them before climbing over a baby gate and greeting the cats happily. “Come on in~” Evan took a step, stubbing his toe against the baby gate, stumbling back a moment before he tripped and scaring the cats near him away.

Connor quickly moved, gently grabbing onto Evan to help him steady himself. “You okay?” He asked gently, pulling hi hands back after a moment.

“Yeah, just didn’t know that was there-“ Evan said, pausing. “Can I just-“ “Oh, sorry- lemme just open that for you~” Eloise said, swinging the baby gate open. “Now you can step through-“

Connor followed Evan inside, staying close by. He looked around for a moment and smiled, seeing the kittens. “Oh my God, they’re so adorable-“

“Wait, gimme one-“ Evan said, crouching down and sitting on the floor cross-cross-applesauce. He jumped as a kitten climbed into his lap and rubbed against his hand, starting to purr loudly. “Holy s----“ “That’s Roberto~” Eloise said with a chuckle.

Connor chuckled and moved to sit on the floor by Evan, watching him with a lovesick grin for a moment before quickly looking away.
