Jayd chased after him. "Chester?" He asked gently, noticing how upset he was.

‘You think I’m a jerk, don’t you?’ Chester said. He didn’t turn around to face him.

Jayden thought about the best way to word his next sentence. "Well, you did snap at her within the first 10 seconds of her showing up... But I also know why." He shrugged.

‘And why’s that?’ Chester asked, tears welling in his eyes. Beatrice had always ruined things for him since they broke up, but this was a new low, even for her.

"The diary you let me read may or may not have talked about her a bit." Jayd grabbed Chester's hand to try and comfort him.

Chester’s eyes widened. ‘You-You read that?’ he said, looking down at him, slightly scared.

"I did." Jayden nodded.

‘So you know I’m not still with her?’ Chester checked, wiping his eyes with the hand Jayden wasn’t holding.

Jayd nodded. "I know that."

‘Are you mad with me?’ Chester asked.

"About what?" Jayden asked, not sure why he'd be mad.

‘For snapping at her. Or supposedly cheating. Or whatever you could possibly be mad about.’

Jayd shook his head. "You could've been calmer, but that's not a big enough reason for me to hate you. And I know you didn't cheat, beautiful."

She’ll give you a reason to hate me. Chester smiled weakly. ‘If you knew her you would’ve shouted too,’ he said. ‘But thanks, love.’

"You're very welcome." Jayden smiled. "Do you want me to leave you alone for a moment?"
