Mildred did the same. She crossed her legs in her seat, humming to herself absentmindedly.
-
"I think Frederick would be far more like the harpy then the unicorn." Jack said as he cut his pancakes into bite sized pieces
-
Mildred chuckled. ‘I’m going to assume that’s a bad thing, since I don’t know what a harpy is.’
-
"harpies are serious news. They eat human flesh, and they bring seriously evil magic. They're a mysterious omen in this town." Jack said before taking a bite of his pancakes. They were normal pancakes.
-
‘Oh. That’s.. lovely,’ Mildred said, wincing and continuing to eat. ‘I guess I’ll just pray they stay the heck away from me.’
-
"harpies follow rules in this kingdom. Vampires are very different than humans after all. Harpies say vampire flesh tastes rotten and bitter. They say our shape shifting makes us difficult to fight and killing us is more than we're worth." Jack said.
-
‘Fair enough. How many people know of my being here?’ Mildred asked.
-
"most of the undead know, but they also know better than to eat you. You're getting a party, that's reason enough not to touch you. They see it as a good omen." Jack said.
-
'Thank goodness for that,' Mildred mumbled, taking a bite from her pancakes. 'I'm still quite scared of you vampires.'
-
"understandable. We are blood sucking monsters." Jack said matter-o-factly.
-
'I wouldn't say monsters, I'm just generally afraid of people who hunt humans,' Mildred said, trying to get a blueberry on her fork.
-
"understandable. If my anatomy wasn't so different they wouldn't have to hunt humans, though some would miss the taste of human blood." Jack said
-
'Are your guards gonna look for another human for you to eat? Since, er, you didn't eat me?' Mildred asked, cutting into her pancakes.
-
"probably, or they'll wait for me to get too dehydrated. I actually tried not to drink human blood once y'know." Jack said. He remembered that year. It was difficult. He stopped eating for a minute and just stared at his pancakes. He started to rub his neck. He felt thirsty remembering it.
-
'What happened there?' Mildred asked, taking a bite from her pancakes.
