"then I'll be just as lost on his actions as I usually am, with no clue why Frederick did any of it." Jack said. He rubbed his eye patch and thought about the details. Frederick acted so sweetly so he couldn't understand why Frederick would abandon him after learning about the eye.
-
Mildred sighed. 'He told me he took it to try and bring back your brother. I didn't really believe him.'
-
"I know why he took my eye. I can tell you too if you promise to not betray me for the same reason." Jack said. He held his eye patch fast to his face. As if it would truly protect him.
-
Mildred nodded. 'You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. But I promise.'
-
"royal vampire eyes... They make people immortal. They are the secret to eternal youth. They are incredibly powerful, bringing people back from the brink of death, but their power would not work on another royal vampire. There is a massive difference between the effects of the eye between humans and vampires. They also cannot bring back someone who has already died. Their soul is already gone at that point." Jack said.
-
Mildred rubbed her arm, filled with guilt. She'd considered more than once taking Jack's eye and keeping it for herself to bring back her family. If she'd actually followed through with it she wouldn't be granted a brother or a parent, but forever immortality. She was scared of death, but she didn't want to live forever. She was glad she didn't actually take it.
'Wow. So, Frederick took your eye for immortality...' she said. 'Does that mean he can't die?' -
"it is impossible to kill Frederick Bavlenca without the power of his own consciousness. He is the only one who can decide when he dies." Jack said.
-
Mildred nodded, fiddling with her hands, trying to distract herself from her guilt. 'Makes sense, I suppose.'
-
"what is wrong Mildred? You seem to be fidgeting quite a lot." Jack asked.
-
Mildred looked away. 'Nothing,' she mumbled. 'Nothing's wrong.'
-
"okay then." Jack said. He looked out towards the party preparations. It was already shaping up quite nicely
-
Mildred sighed, sitting back down on the stool.
-
"this ball will be just as good as the ones in the past. It would be better if Alexander was here, but at least you are here. Balls are far better with a friend." Jack said.
-
Mildred smiled. 'You really think so?' She was glad he thought of her as a friend. It helped take away her guilt.
-
"I know so. This ballroom has been empty for far too long." Jack proclaimed. He remembered dancing in this ballroom so many years ago. He was a clumsy dancer at best but it would not matter. He started thinking of activities for the ball.
