Mildred sighed. 'He told me you still loved each other. He told me you wouldn't care if you lost your sight, because he said he wanted to bring back your brother with your eye. I... I figured he knew you better than I did. I didn't think it was right, but I thought it's what you would've wanted,' she mumbled, rubbing her eyes.

"I.... I understand that. I perhaps judged you too harshly. I... Apologize." Jack said. The encounter humbled him just a bit. He was difficult to reason with when angry, like any vampire, but it shouldn't have clouded his better judgement. He looked away out of shame this time.

Mildred sighed, looking down at the ground. 'Me too. I-I'm sorry,' she said quietly. She looked up at him, eyes red from crying. 'Am I still going to be punished?' She was willing to accept any punishment, but that didn't mean she wasn't afraid.

"yes, no more secrets from me. That's your punishment. You also have to help me clean my eye socket. The empty one." Jack says before looking back to Mildred he was mostly being lighthearted but he worried about vampiric communication

Mildred wrinkled her nose. 'You have to clean it?' she said, smiling softly. 'I'm fine with that. Thank you, Jack.' She bowed her head in gratitude.

"it would get infected if I didn't." Jack said. Then, he smiled. Humans made the castle far more lively. It would be a shame if they were all treacherous.

'Makes sense, I suppose. But I'm not sticking my bare fingers in there,' Mildred said, chuckling softly. Her knees still shook from the nerves, but at least Jack wasn't too mad at her. She liked seeing him smile.

"if you stuck your fingers into my eye socket I'd just about have a panic attack Mildred." Jack said. It really would give him flashbacks to the unfortunate removal of his eye after all.

'I don't blame you,' Mildred said, smiling softly. 'Do you forgive me?'

"yes. This'll be the first time I've ever forgiven a human. Please don't make it a mistake. I really do think you're a good person Mildred" Jack said.

Mildred smiled wider. 'Thank you, Jack. You won't regret it,' she said. She glanced behind her at Jack's servants fiddling her hands, then back at Jack.

The servants one by one went back to their tasks. They were not yet trustful to the human. They worried about their prince as they prepared this uncertain party.

Mildred sighed. 'Jack? What'll you do with Frederick once you catch him?'

"I'll put him in the dungeon. Then I'll interrogate him. I need to know why he did this to me. Why he betrayed my trust, Why he left me, and why he came back. I think I deserve to know the truth." Jack said.

Mildred nodded. 'I agree. But... what if you don't catch him?'
