Vampire Prince

Mildred smiled. ‘Hopefully. How’d you get it off?’ she asked.
-
"a stale slice of bread soaks up colored ink very well. As for the regular ink there is a mushroom called lactarius turpis that soaks up newly spilled ink. It will work up to three days after the ink is applied. The sea prince is over fifty years old so the actual story is safe while the drawings are left as nothing more than a stain on the mycelium." Jack said.
-
Mildred nodded. ‘That’s pretty cool, actually,’ she said thoughtfully, making a mental note to rub it in Frederick’s face later. She wasn’t even sure if she was going to help him or not yet, because taking Jack’s sight to revive his brother seemed a little too far. ‘Can I ask you a question?’
-
"hmmm? That's an interesting request... But sure." Jack said. He was interested in what Mildred had to ask.
-
‘So, you told me that a royal vampire’s eye holds incredible power to bring back the dead, blah blah blah,’ Mildred said, shifting her weight from foot to foot. She couldn’t remember if it had been Frederick or Jack that had told her, but she figured that was a minor issue. ‘Have you ever thought about using that power to bring back Alexander?’
-
Jack froze. His eye twitched before he stood up. "Who told you?" He asked. The lights dimmed strongly as the flames turned blue. Jack's eye started to glow. He had not told the human about his eye. He never told another human about his eye.
-
Mildred’s eyes widened. She looked around as the lights dimmed and stumbled backwards, holding her hands up. ‘Nobody told me! I-I just assumed!’ she lied.
-
"no one would just 'assume' one of the specific powers of a royal vampire. WHO TOLD YOU!" Jack shouted. His voice boomed as his teeth seemed to grow. He was upset. Someone was a traitor in this palace. Someone was just waiting for another human to show up to attack him. Someone was trying to usurp the throne, possibly even a human.
-
Mildred looked up at him. She’d never promised Frederick anything. She could rat him out and never have to deal with him again.
Her knees wobbled as she looked back down, fiddling with her hands. -
All of the vampires looked towards Mildred with rage and hatred in their eyes. They were worried for Jack and angry at the humans for upsetting him. They slowly advanced.
-
Mildred glanced behind her, noticing Jack’s servants advancing. ‘Ok, ok, I’ll tell you!’ she said quickly, taking a careful step away from the vampires. ‘Fredrick. It was Fredrick.’
-
All of the vampires were too stunned to move. Even jack froze in shock. Whispers rippled through the crowd. Jack spoke up. "He's here? Where is he! Why didn't you tell me?" Jack couldn't believe what he'd just heard. It was far far too strange. It was completely absurd.
-
Mildred looked down, shifting her weight from foot to foot nervously. ‘He’s somewhere in the ceiling. In the library. I… he told me not to tell you,’ she mumbled, looking up at him.
-
"and you'd trust him... Of course you would. I'm only some blood sucking monster. I have no feelings. I couldn't possibly ever be a good person. I only put a roof over your head, clothes on your back and food on your table. Of course the human whomst you just met and the only thing you know from him is that he takes people's eyes is the best one to trust in this situation. The guy you know is distrustful." Jack said. The lights grew darker. Jack had felt even more betrayed. Of course he just had to trust a human again.
-
Mildred looked down. ‘Jack, it’s not like that. He told me he took your eye to bring back your brother, and that’s the reason he’s still alive, and-‘ She rubbed her face, taking a deep breath. ‘I didn’t know what to think! Do you really think I’d betray you?’
