"my poetry is..." Jack said, starting to blush "it's really bad, like, egregious."
-
‘C’mon, it can’t be that bad!’ Mildred said, grinning innocently. ‘I promise I won’t laugh!’
-
"If you laugh at so much as one silly line I'll burn all of those embarrassing old poems." Jack said, crossing his arms
-
‘I won’t, promise! Pleeeeeeease?’ Mildred tried to give him puppy eyes.
-
"I... You can read one. Just one so you have to pick veeeery carefully." Jack said, trying to remember his least embarrassing poem
-
Mildred grinned. ‘Yay!’
-
Jack walked defeated to his study and opened the door. It smelled like a well read book and old ink. There were several books on the shelves as well as occasional clumsy looking folders tucked haphazardly into the shelves. In the middle of the room there was a desk overflowing with papers as well as several chairs
-
Mildred followed, looking around. She ran her finger along the spines of the books in the bookshelf, following close behind Jack. ‘Your office is nice.’
-
"thanks, believe it or not, I inherited it directly from my father. Alexander wasn't a big fan of writing anything so he gave it directly to me." Jack said
-
‘That’s so cool. Where do you keep your poetry?’ Mildred walked over to the desk and looked over it curiously.
-
"well, some of its on the desk, but most of it, it's all around. I compiled them into folders, and in my youth I put the folders full of my poetry all around the room so I could pretend I was one of the old, great writers that would show up on a kings bookshelf." Jack said
-
Mildred found one of the folders and flicked through it, looking for one that caught her interest. She wanted to spend all day in Jack’s study, reading all his poetry, but since she could only pick one, she wanted to find a really good one.
-
Jack had all sorts of poetry in his folder, dramatic, lyrical, narrative, he had blackout poems and limericks, free verse poems and haikus and even a few epitaphs
-
Mildred selected one with a cool sounding title and pulled it out of the folder. She set the folder on his desk and read the poem.
