"oh, it seems it's "lunch time" jack said. He was looking forward to it since Wilhelm had told him there was a roast beef sandwich in his future. He loved roast beef for lunch but it took awhile to get. Wilhelm even usually made cibatta bread for roast beef sandwiches.
-
'Oh,' Mildred said, looking back at Jack. 'I suppose I must've skipped breakfast, then.' It explained her sudden hunger.
-
"you probably shouldn't do that but breakfast usually starts a bit after moonrise." Jack said. Wilhelm set up a whole schedule for chef breaks and everything
-
'Good to know. I must've got caught up looking for my book,' Mildred said, thinking about how the book had gotten dropped from the ceiling. Someone must've thrown it, but she hasn't seen anybody in the library.
-
"the book went missing?" Jack questioned. He didn't know anyone else went to the library except for the occasional maid.
-
'Yeah. I fell asleep reading and couldn't find the book. So I went back to sleep and went to look for it when night fell again,' Mildred explained. 'I found it when it got dropped from the ceiling.' Now that she said it out loud, Mildred realised how ridiculous it sounded. 'It was probably thrown or something.'
-
"I'll have to find out who threw it and reevaluate their career. Though they could've just applied for a career change." Jack said. If people couldn't find a good job he'd give them one but if they didn't like the one they got they were fully allowed to ask for a different one
-
'Do you know who did the drawing?' Mildred asked, grabbing the book and flipping to the scribbles. 'And what it's supposed to be?'
-
"I don't know who drew them, but they look very similar to drawings Frederick uses to leave on notes for me. It was entertaining for him to see me react to the drawings but he never drew in any books as far as I knew." Jack said. He remembered the silly things Frederick drew
-
'The drawing wasn't in it before,' Mildred said, running her finger on the ink, smudging it slightly. She wiped her hand on the back of her dress. 'It is possible Fre- sorry, he was in the library?'
-
"he left five years ago. I can't think of a reason he'd be in the library." Jack said. If Frederick returned it would probably be to steal his other eye for whatever lover he found out in the vast, wild, sunny world without jack. It hurt his heart even more than the betrayal to think about Frederick living somewhere else with someone else.
-
'Why did he leave in the first place?' Mildred asked, looking up from he drawing in the book. She knew it was rude to pry, but there'd be no better time to ask.
-
"...... he got what he wanted. He never intended to stay. He never intended to keep any of his promises." Jack said. Rage filled his voice as he spoke about it. He couldn't believe Frederick would dare ever show his face again after everything but jack knew the minute Frederick showed up he'd cave in.
-
'You two were lovers,' Mildred said quietly, trying not to make him any more angry. She cocked her head at him. 'What did he do to betray your trust? Besides taking your eye.' She remembered what Wilhelm had said about vampire eyes. They were supposed to be very powerful or something.
-
"how did you know me and him were lovers?" Jack asked. He thought someone in the palace was talking about it. It was forbidden obviously. He sounded angry
