'Woah,' Mildred muttered, looking at him in newfound awe. 'That's pretty cool.'
-
"it's a curse in a way. I can never feel how warm the sun is." Jack said. He read countless books on the warmth and vibrancy of the sun but he'd never experience it.
-
'That's true,' Mildred said thoughtfully. She tried to think of a way he could, but nothing came to mind. 'You said that your mother died when she had you. How did she if vampires are immortal? If you don't mind sharing.'
-
"vampire children suck the life force of their parents. The strain of two children killed her." Jack said. He never met her and he never minded. Jack opened the door of the dining hall
-
'Oh. I'm sorry,' Mildred said, not quite knowing what else to say. She stepped inside the dining hall and sat down at the seat she had the previous night for dinner.
-
"it's fine." Jack said taking his seat at the head of the table. He rang the bell and Wilhelm rolled out the tray of food quickly. "For tonight's lunch we have croissants with garlic butter, mozzarella cheese and ham slices as well as some tomato bisque." Wilhelm said happily.
-
'Thank you,' Mildred said instinctively once her plate of food was set in front of her.
-
Jack frowned a bit when he found out there was no roast beef but croissants weren't that bad so he was happy. He dipped the croissant sandwiches into the tomato bisque when he ate them. Wilhelm nodded his head at Mildred before returning to the kitchen and bringing back a pitcher of milk and a sealed pitcher.
-
Mildred started eating as well, trying not to get too much tomato bisque on her fingers as she ate. She'd never had a crossiant before, but remembered Albert saying it in a funny accent when she asked what it was after reading it in a book. He pronounced it in a mock French accent, which always made Mildred laugh.
-
Jack took some milk and poured in into the bisque which only made the soup better. Milk was great for flavoring foods in his opinion. Jack remembered when Alexander tried eating. He remembered that his brother didn't like most of it but he especially hated tomato bisque.
-
'So,' Mildred said. 'Are we allowed to talk during dinner, or is it a silent thing?'

"you may speak but be forewarned I won't always say something back. Some of Wilhelm's food is too deliciously distracting." Jack said. He finished the croissants before the bisque.
-
'Fair enough,' Mildred said, 'This is the best food I've had in years.'
-
"he's a great cook, I'm glad he does the cooking instead of me. He actually studied the art of cooking from a kobold." Jack said. Wilhelm cooked a lot over the millions of years he was alive. Jack wondered who Wilhelm cooked for
