Mildred continued reading contently.
-
Jack ate the semlors and remembered when the humans ate here, not his beloved Frederick but the worthless traitorous scum that costed his brother his life. He'd sometimes eat with them to avoid lessons. Alexander would follow him into the dining hall and even though he never ate he still seemed so happy to be there with him. Jack sighed
-
After a bit, Mildred put down the book and looked around the library. She couldn't believe she ever wanted to escape. It was so nice here.
-
Jack finished his food and decided to head to the dungeon. He was going to check on a very important thing. He walked down the stairs feeling a chill in the air. It was always dreadfully cold in the dungeons. He walked past skeletons and old prisoners alike. They didn't matter. He kept walking down all the way to the bottom
-
Mildred put a bookmark in the page of her book and set it on the pile, before pulling her shoes back on. She walked around the library, looking for some kind of hidden secret. She'd heard every castle had at least one, and thought maybe there'd be one in a room as grand as this.
-
Jack walked up to a door. It was locked. He pulled out the boney key and unlocked the door. Inside was a familiar sight to him. A man with red hair slept in a glass coffin. A knife stuck out from the man's chest. He looked like a 19 year old human, but as of the current year he was 26000 years old. He had not aged a day since the incident. The room was decorated with fancy fungi and red spider lilies. It also had a taxidermied rat king. It was Alexander's pet at some point.
-
Mildred ran her hand along the wall, until she got to a part of the wall that pushed like a button when she pressed. Mildred frowned and pressed it in, and a trapdoor opened under her. She jumped out of the way just in time. 'Woah,' she muttered.
-
Jack shut the door and sat down right in front of the glass coffin. "Hey Alexander, it's been awhile. I hope you're having good dreams in there if you're having dreams." Jack said. Alexander's chest softly rose and fell. "A human came to the castle yesterday, technically dragged in." Jack continued to Alexander
-
Mildred looked inside the secret room. It looked dark and dusty. She grabbed a candle from the table and carefully jumped down, looking around curiously.
-
Jack continued talking to the sleeping Alexander. "I can talk to the human. She's very different from Frederick but I don't mind. It's calmer. I wish you could've met Frederick though, I think you would've liked him." Jack touched the glass coffin lightly.
-
It was very dark in the room. Mildred couldn't see further than 6 feet from her. She walked forward and noticed some metal bars. She was walking past cells, she realised, jail cells.
-
"I gotta wonder if you felt like this Alexander, were you lonely on the throne? Was that the reason you saved those people?" Jack questioned, he knew he'd never get an answer. He hugged the glass coffin. It was the closest he could get to hugging his older brother once again.
-
Mildred shone the candle around. Her eyes suddenly landed on a skeleton and she let out a terrified scream. Once she'd caught her breath, she swallowed nervously and watched the skeleton like it would jump up and walk towards her. It obviously didn't, so Mildred continued walking, keeping a safe distance away from it.
-
Jack heard a scream, he assumed it was from a prisoner. He just stayed at the coffin. "I hope I was able to at least help with your loneliness Alexander." Jack said. Alexander's chest softly rose and fell.
-
Mildred shuddered and continued walking. She passed prisoners who looked thin and bony. Some slept and others tried to grab her as she passed. Mildred swallowed, flinching away from them.
