'That does sound nice,' Mildred said with a sad sigh. 'My father taught my brother and I to read and write. My mother didn't know how to. Alber- My brother always told me my e's were backwards.' She thought. 'I'm certain I did not write my e's backwards.'
-
"it is beneficial to a society for everyone to be able to read and write, I am glad you know how. My brother used to write many of his letters backwards. He told me it drove our parents crazy." Jack said. It was comforting to talk to Mildred about topics such as education and crop production. An outsider to the political intricasies provided a fresh new outlook
-
Mildred chuckled. 'What were your parents like, if you don't mind me asking? I assume your father is king, since you said you're second-in-line to the throne,' she mused, cocking her head to the side. Mildred liked hearing about other people's parents. It was like seeing the instruction manual to people, she thought, and never got to meet other's families much after the fire.
-
"I don't know, I never met them. My mother died after having me and my father refused to live without her, he walked right out into the sun. My older brother raised me for the most part. He is the king." Jack said. He missed his brother whenever he had to explain these things. He made them sound much more dull.
-
'Oh. I'm sorry,' Mildred said, vexed at herself for making that mistake. 'That must suck.'
-
"it is not too bad. I just have to wait for when he wakes up." Jack said. In his mind though, it raised a question. If his brother ever woke up. His brothers sleep was the main reason he was the prince and not the king and it was also the reason he was so alone even before Frederick. His brother might never wake up and it truly was a human's fault. It made him angry and sad just thinking about it
-
'What happened to him?' Mildred asked curiously. Anyone who slept for longer than a week were declared dead by the king, and we'e buried. Sometimes they were just in a coma, and woke in the grave, buried alive. Just the thought sent shivers down Mildred's spine.

"well, my brother Alexander had always been a troublemaker but once out on his daytime hunts he saved three people from a slave trade in the woods and as they had no place to go he invited them to our palace. They tutored me during the nights, their names were Yusa, Obsidian, and Talia. They were kind enough to me but there always seemed to be something wrong with them. I never thought that wrongness would end the way it did though. One day at dusk Talia stormed into my brother's throne room and burst open the front doors I had just walked in to ask her to read me a bedtime story since my brother was busy when she rushed at me with a knife. From there it all happened in seconds, Alexander rushed in front of me to block the knife and protect me from the sun. The knife was hit with sunlight and his fate was all but sealed. It was a miracle he didn't die. I killed Talia right then and there, as for Yusa and obsidian they were hanged and given to the people to tear apart. I believe Wilhelm still has their teeth." Jack recounted. Tears welled up in his eyes recounting it all

Mildred, before even stopping to think, stood and wrapped Jack Coros in a hug. She wrapped her arms around him, and just as she realised what she was doing it was too late. 'That's horrible,' she said quietly, imagining it happening to her own brother. She hated the idea of it, and thought it terrible how some people could be so cruel.
-
The tears solemnly fell from Jack's eyes. "Now you know why I consider humans so cruel. He gave them everything he could, and she just attacked him. She had written several letters to the others on how she'd planned to do it and how they were going to eat him after he was dead. Now he'll never wake up." Jack said through his tears.
-
'I'd never do that to my friend,' Mildred said angrily, accidentally directing her anger at Jack. She meant it for the horrible people. She hugged him slightly tighter, seeing he hadn't pushed her away yet. 'It's truly cruel what they did to him. I'm not even going to try and think there's good in them, because that's inexcusable.'
-
"they were the first humans I ever met, and I trusted them blindly. I wish Alexander never met them." Jack said. He was venting. He never got to talk to anyone except Frederick and Wilhelm about it. He was starting to become unsettled by how close he was getting with Mildred. He looked to the moon. It was almost time for him to claim his semlors.
-
'You couldn't have known,' Mildred said softly, pulling away a little self-consciously. She sat back down on the stool. 'You can't change the past. All you can do it !earn from it.' She got that quote from a book.
-
"it's why I don't often trust humans. To be completely honest I'm surprised I even gave you a room with a window at first." Jack said. He remembered how yesterday Mildred jumped out of a window. It was almost funny to him in the moment but also he realized she was lucky he was so pressed about it or she would likely be dead.
-
Mildred smiled. It was funny now she thought of it, how scared she'd been before realising there was much more to this man than she thought. 'I was too, to be frank,' Mildred said with a chuckle. 'It's probably for the best you moved me to a room with none.'
