Mildred didn’t speak for a moment, just gave a weak smile. It was weird to think about, that Jack would get the end of the world to live and she’d get a hundred, at most. Probably less if she were to stay in Jack’s kingdom. If she was really unlikely she’d get brutally murdered and eaten by a vampire within a week. ‘Yeah. It’s unsettling, really.’

"it's a difficult subject, but I also think it leads to our different lifestyles." Jack said. A bashful looking maid walked into the library and stood by the door.

Mildred nodded and turned her gaze to the maid, watching her curiously for a moment before looking at Jack.

Jack was not paying attention. "Living a thousand years and seeing the collapse of societies can change your outlook." Jack rambled on

‘I-I suppose so. Uh, there’s someone at the door-‘ Mildred said.

Jack turned around. "Ah yes, hello Celie." Jack said. "Hello your highness!" Celie said cheerfully

Mildred brought her legs up on the chair and crossed them, looking at Celie.

"I came in here to check some stuff for jezebel. I also wanted to see Mildred, uh, hello." Celie said, waving to Mildred.

‘Hello,’ Mildred said with a small smile, waving back.

"you look great in that old dress, it's your color." Celie said as she walked over to Jezebel's fabric section of the desk. She pulled out an evergreen colored fabric with silver trim. She then pulled out a teal fabric with an embroidered sunflower.

Mildred’s smile widened. ‘Thank you,’ she said sheepishly, eyes following her.

"I'm only telling the truth." Celie said, curtseying. Before she left she spoke under her breath. "How strange to actually see a human."

Mildred raised an eyebrow at the last part before looking back at Jack.
