Mildred nodded, staying quiet for a moment. ‘So when’s that meeting with Celie, since it keeps getting rescheduled? Do you think she actually wants to see me?’

"I'd imagine so considering most of the pushback was due to external events, like the Frederick scare." Jack said.

‘Okay,’ Mildred said. She glanced up at him. ‘You seem pretty calm that your crazy ex-boyfriend is in your castle.’

"what am I supposed to do about it? Burn down my castle?" Jack said. He wasn't happy about Frederick hiding out in his walls but he didn't know what to do about it.

‘I don’t know. But I’m surprised you’re not freaking out, honestly,’ Mildred said.

"if I think about it too much I'll go mad. I just try to ignore it." Jack said

‘Fair enough,’ Mildred said, looking up at the ceiling as if she expected Frederick to be looking down at them. ‘When’s dinner, or whatever’s next?’

"I think we might have missed it. We could probably convince Wilhelm to make something though. It just won't be as big as what he usually makes." Jack said

‘Okay,’ Mildred said, nodding. ‘Sounds good.’

"wonderful." Jack said, opening the door to the library.

Mildred stood up, following him.

Jack held open the door

Mildred walked out of the library.

Jack followed. "Wilhelm will probably serve a cold tomato soup. It's strange." Jack said

‘Cold tomato soup isn’t that bad,’ Mildred said. ‘It’s funny how defiant some of your servants are despite you being king.’
