'What's that?' Mildred asked, watching the moth.

"it's a symbol meant to represent an eternal cycle. It's a serpent eating it's own tail." Jack said

'Why would a serpent eat it's own tail?' Mildred questioned, confused.

"it's from an old legend. It used to be that humans believed there was a giant serpent under the sea, it swallowed its own tail to comfort it while it slept. If it ever woke up the world was believed to end soon after." Jack said

‘Woah. That’s, interesting,’ Mildred said. ‘Is that true, or…’

"I don't know. I've never checked." Jack said.

‘… and that doesn’t terrify you?’

"the end of the world is something vampires have expected to see someday. We live for generations of Human history, most of us think that we'll eventually see the end of it if we live long enough and to some of us the end is a comfort. Knowing that your life is not infinite is not as bad when there's more of your life." Jack said.

‘I’m just saying, I don’t want the world to end before I get to my 20th birthday,’ Mildred said, huffing.

"oh, it probably won't end in your lifetime. You'll get to grow old. The serpent would most likely awaken years and years away." Jack said.

‘Thank god for that,’ Mildred said.

"May you grow old peacefully." jack said sincerely.

‘Thank you. You too, even though you’re pretty old already,’ Mildred said, nudging his side playfully.

"I think I'll grow old cranky. Maybe I should start practicing shouting at people to get off my lawn." Jack said
