Vampire Prince

Mildred laughed. ‘Too bad I won’t live long enough to see that. Do you even have a lawn?’
-
"technically we're standing on my lawn right now." Jack said. He picked a moonflower and twisted the stem.
-
'Fair enough. But how would people get in?'
-
"the bridge. Maybe some young vampires will climb the fence when I get slightly wrinkly and I'll get to yell at them to leave my yard." Jack said. He always imagined living in a separate mansion at that time. After all, he was only a prince. If Alexander ever woke up and produced an heir then jack would become a duke.
-
'I'd love to see that,' Mildred said with a teasing smile. 'That would be hilarious.'
-
"unfortunately you'll only ever get to see a stay off the flower patch." Jack said, bopping Mildred's nose.
-
Mildred rolled her eyes. 'Stop rubbing my mortality in my face, I'm depressed enough by it as it is,' she huffed.
-
"it's a complement Mildred. Life is precious because it is short. In my case it's long and arduous. Life becomes less prescious the more of it you have." Jack said
-
Mildred sighed. ‘I guess so. But it’s so short that everyone’s scared they’ll screw it up. You only get one life, and one bad choice could f--- it up completely. At least as a vampire you have many chances.’
-
"but in return for all these chances we're cursed with a deadly thirst. It's like a game of chess you're cheating at. Sure you win but you loose the fun." Jack said
-
‘You have ways to quench that thirst though. The human body can barely go three days without food or water,’ Mildred said. ‘Vampires don’t even need to eat to stay alive.’
-
"that's true but you're missing the point. Human lives may be short but your lives are so pure and complicated and beautiful. Vampires just exist for thousands of years and die by chance one day." Jack said
-
Mildred shook her head, focusing her gaze on the ghost flowers. ‘The only thing beautiful about a human’s life is what you can do with it. As a vampire you have so much more time, so you can do more with it. You don’t have to worry about losing someone or being lost because you’re immortal with enough rabbit blood.’
-
"actually, that's wrong. As a vampire you'll always loose someone you love eventually, and it will be the most painful thing you've ever experienced. Vampires are not used to loss, so it threatens everything we know about this world. It hurts us on every Level of our consciousness." Jack said
-
‘But it’s not as frequent. Vampires are practically immortal,’ Mildred said, growing upset. ‘You don’t understand how lucky you are, Jack.’
