"yes. I once heard vampires used to live among humans at one point, it never turned out well though. Humans would kill the vampires and vampires would have to hunt a human eventually. The life expectancy at that time was even lower for vampires." Jack said
-
Mildred nodded. ‘Makes sense. I wish we could live in the same villages, though. Without all the blood and gore. You vampires have good morals,’ she said, looking up at the stars again. ‘Some humans could use it.’
-
"if blood rages weren't a problem for vampires we'd be able to try. Without our blood rages though there would still be a murder problem. Humans have a bit of a reasonable prejudice towards us. Also, I know there are humans with good morals, just like there are a few vampires with bad morals. Some undead still insist on hunting humans. We exile and imprison them as needed, but there's always someone in life who is bad." Jack said
-
‘Yeah, that’s fair. I wish all bad people got what they deserved, too. But the universe is mysterious,’ Mildred said with a sigh, focusing her gaze back on Jack.
-
"if karma existed the world would be better for it. I believe you're one of the good humans Mildred." Jack said. He smiled at Mildred. Suddenly, jack remembered how long it had been since he drank human blood. His throat felt itchy.
-
Mildred gave a small smile back. ‘Thanks, Jack. You’re one of the good vampires,’ she said.
-
"that.... Means a lot to me." Jack said. He itched his neck a bit. He stared at the rocks and felt his gums seem to lose all moisture.
-
Mildred’s smile widened and she looked up at the stars, picking at the skin next to her nails.
-
Jack continued itching his neck. The roof of his mouth started to itch too. He stared at the ground before closing his eyes as tightly as he could.
-
Mildred glanced at him, brows furrowing. ‘Are you okay, Jack?’ she asked.
-
"yeah, just.... I'm fine." Jack said, pulling his knees to his chest. He'd drink something inside. He started chewing on his nails. His throat burned.
-
‘Are you sure? You don’t look fine,’ Mildred said, shifting her position so she could face him. ‘I mean, obviously you look fine, but- Ugh, you know what I mean. Are you okay?’
-
"I'll be okay in a few minutes." Jack said. He squeezed his legs tighter. He chewed on his nails until he was just chewing on his fingers. His throat felt burnt and stabbed.
-
Mildred frowned. ‘What’s wrong? Do you need me to get someone?’
-
"I.... Get Wilhelm." Jack muttered. He had started tearing the skin off his fingers trying desperately to quell the thirst as his throat continued to scratch and feel like it was stuck in a house fire. His tear ducts had started leaking similarly to when people eat spicy foods
