Mildred gave a weak smile and nodded. ‘Of course.’
-
"you don't seem to be doing very well." Jack said. He looked towards the tinted lights round the garden then back to Mildred
-
Mildred’s gaze averted to her shoes. ‘I’m doing fine,’ she insisted.
-
"well, I won't press further, but you're not great at hiding when you're not doing fine." Jack said.
-
‘Damn it,’ Mildred muttered. She looked back up and looked around, trying to find something to change the subject.
-
"these moths are quite strange you know, they produce a sort of venom that makes humans feel paranoid. It looks identical to ink but it doesn't show up on paper." Jack said
-
Mildred stepped away from the moths. 'How lovely. Tell me if one comes near me, would you?'
-
"I would've escorted you inside for treatment if you were hit. The venom settles on their wings." Jack said
-
'Right. I don't know how that's supposed to make me feel better,' Mildred said.
-
"sorry, I thought it would be a good thing to note. By the way, I was wondering what you thought of the book." Jack said
-
'It was a bit boring at the start, but other than that it was kind of entertaining,' Mildred said, shrugging.
-
"Really? I thought the beginning was very intriguing, of course, Smendric did make the book much more entertaining." jack said
-
'Smendric is an amazing name, by the way.'
-
"It really is a great name for a magician. I particularly liked the part where he tricked the bandits into running away" Jack said
-
'It's very fun to say,' Mildred agreed.
