Jonah took a bite, and it tasted AMAZING.
“This is so good!” He said after he swallowed. “You’re a great cook.” -
"I'm not really a cook, I'm a baker. I'm glad the recipe turned out alright. I didn't have my usual apples for pie so I used a different recipe" Valako said

“Well it’s really good!” Jonah said, smiling. “I wish my dad made pie this good.”

"Everyone wishes for good apple pie, it's like, the first wish to give to a genie. That reminds me!" Valako shouted excitedly. "Since you're able to go through town regularly and all, I gotta ask, what is it like going to a real movie theater?" Valako asked bursting with curiosity

He shrugged, not knowing how to explain a movie theater. “It’s like watching it on TV, but with a bunch of different people sitting with you, and the screen is ten times bigger and better than your own. Oh, and you have really good popcorn.”

"it sounds so fun. I've always wanted to go to a movie theater, but I've never really been able to leave the forest. Wether I wear a mask or go normally everyone is just too afraid of my face." Valako said

“I’ll take you someday.” Jonah promised. “The main thing about a movie theater is the popcorn. A movie there is incomplete without it.”

"that's a nice thought but I'd never be able to get past the treeline. Those rocks really hurt after a few minutes." Valako said. She traced the irises on her mask as she took another bite of her pie.

“I’ll find a way to have you watch a movie in a movie theater. One that doesn’t involve rocks.”

She smiled as wide as possible. She felt her ears slightly turn red at the thought of Jonah helping her see a movie theater. "So, uh, how have your friends been? I know James and George but I also heard someone else over at the treeline yesterday." Valako said

“That’d be Sally, another one of my friends.” Jonah said, though didn’t say ‘friend’ very enthusiastically.

"did you get into a fight with them? It sounds like something's wrong." Valako said. She was fairly good at picking up tone of voice

He shrugged. “Not a fight, they were just being jerks to everyone.” He said, avoiding the whole thing about Valako being a ‘monster’.

"as far as I know they're not bad people, but then again, I can only see as far as the treeline." Valako said. She remembered many times looking out over the treeline to the town. So many things happened in town, it was all so different from what she was used to. She wished she could walk through the streets

Jonah shook his head. “They were fine until we went to the forest.” He said.
“Although they didn’t change much.”
