"Go on then" Lily smiled trying not to sound relieved. She took Anne's hand again and ran with her out of the water.
(When do you want the love bit to happen, lol? -
(probably soon. They can fall over and on top of each other like in those cliché romance movies 🤷🏽♀️😂)
The two ran on the sand - which was harder than running on grass - up to the picnic, where Anne's mother was reading a novel, Little Women. Marilla wasn't too interested in books, but had taken up reading to pass the time.
'Mother, can we have the food now?' -
(Sure 😂, your writing it this time though)
Marilla looked up and consulted her pocket-watch. "I suppose so, though it isn't long since breakfast" she responded but pulled out the delicious feast of tinned peaches, bread and butter and a lovely cake.
"This looks wonderful, thank you so much Marilla" -

'You're welcome, dearest child,' Marilla said, smiling a little. 'I'm going to look at the markets, give a shout if you need anything.' She stood up and walked up the beach to where some stalls were set up.
Anne sat down on the blanket and grabbed some towels, handing one to Lily. -
Thanks" she smiled wrapping the soft material around her shoulders like a shawl. She looked down at the food and glanced back at Anne.
"Can we start?" She asked. -
'Of course!' Anne said, wrapping her towel around her. She opened the can of peaches and retrieved two spoons from the basket, giving one to Lily.

"This is delicious!" Lily squealed as she swallowed a mouthful of juicy peaches. She dug in for more savouring the taste and then licked her lips once she'd eaten her fair share.

'It is,' Anne agreed with a grin, dipping her spoon in and shoving it in her mouth.

Lily took out a few slices of bread and dripping. It was plain but it was yummy. "Can I have a slice of this?" She checked showing Anne the pack of buttered bread.

'Of course,' Anne said, unwrapping the cloth around the batch of buttered bread and handing it to Lily. She took another spoonful of the peaches.

Lily bit into the bread smiling. It felt so nice not to be starving all the time. She had counted up the pieces and their were six all together. She assumed it was two slices each so she ate just under her fill and offered the cloth to Anne.

'I'm OK,' Anne said, declining the buttered bread. 'There are pastries in there somewhere, I'm saving room for them.'

"Okay, I'll stop for now anyway" Lily decided now full for the first time in her life. She lay her towel out and lay on her side, facing Anne.

Anne finished another spoonful of peaches and lay down next to Lily, smiling.

"What do you want to do now?" She asked flicking a piece of hair behind her ear.
