'You're not going to be sucked away,' Anne laughed, holding onto Lily's hand. 'The waves are small. Don't worry.'

Lily felt reassured by Anne's words but still clung on-to her hand tightly. "Okay" she stated then grinned as the wave rippled beneath her bare feet.

'Do you want to go further in? You can't swim whrn you're waist-deep.'

"I guess" Lily responded though she trembled slightly, clutching Anne's hand even tighter and wading in until it reached about chest-length. She screamed slightly bobbing under then bobbing back up again. She spat out the salty water and laughed. "I'm terrible at this"

'It's your first time,' Anne laughed, 'You'll get the hand of it. Try to go in nose-height, then I can teach you to swim.'

Lily crept in a bit deeper until she could scarcely breathe. She lay on her back, her he'd turned so she'd still be able to talk. "Okay, I think I'm ready now"

'Good,' Anne said, 'Get back in an upright position and kick your legs underneath you to keep you afloat, and your arms like this,' Anne showed her the movement so Lily would be able to stay afloat.

Lily copied Anne's actions and actually swam! Well at least for ten seconds.....
Lily's arms flailed as she caught a wave and she dipped under. She tried kicking her legs but nothing happened. She blinked, then realised she was above the water. She sighed. "That was so embarrassing, I ain't no good at swimming" -
'You need practice,' Anne laughed, 'If you practice you can learn.' Anne's hand was forced under by a wave, and when she popped back up she was laughing.

Lily said nothing but tried again copying Anne's actions, repeating the same few metres over and over until she could swim just under a length without drowning.

'You're getting better,' Anne said with a smile. 'Are you hungry? We can head back and get something to eat, if you like.'

Lily shrugged. "I don't mind" she grinned though breakfast had made her realise how hungry she actually was.
