I was thinking him around the size of a one of those grayhound thingies but shorter))
Lilac shook Kenna's hand firmly, grinning. "Good to know that you don't take it personally. How was the horse for distraction?"
The darkly coloured horse raised its head, chewing a mouthful of grass idly and staring at the small group. -
"I'm not sure I'm one to speak considering I'm not really trained in that sort of thing, but it definitely confused me," Kenna said. She wasn't sure why, but there was something about Lilac that made her feel friendly even though she was a complete stranger.
-
"A rookie mistake. It was especially risky to take Robo away," Ander replied, wringing the front of his shirt out. "You alerted us to the threat."
"But you already knew there was one. All I needed was something to get your attention, getting Robo. And then I needed something to distract you." Lilac's gaze drifted to Kenna with a teasing grin. "Although I think she's already got that covered for me." -
Kenna looked at her in confusion. Then she realized, the dancing. Unsure how to react to the comment, she stayed silent while her thoughts went reeling. How was it possible that she was a distraction to Ander? It was obvious it happened, but wasn't Ander supposed to be super skilled and able to not get distracted by something like dancing?
-
Ander's expression was unreadable, looking from Lilac to Kenna. He wanted to deny it, but she wasn't wrong. If he'd been more alert and focused, he would have noticed Robo's absence sooner. He could have gotten them both killed. His mind lingered on the happy moment they'd briefly shared, but the thought of Kenna with a bullet in her head quickly silenced his thoughts.
"And it won't happen again. Crypta wanted fish, but I'd argue that you're a much better catch." There was merriment in his tone but a heaviness in his heart. "Shall we head back now?" -
Kenna nodded and stood. She wondered how Crypta would react to Lilac being there. Wait where would she sleep? Was she even staying or would she go back to Linnus? Wait a minute, she wasn't the hostess, what was she thinking?
She looked over at Lilac and Ander. Their closeness made a twang in her heart, but she wasn't sure what it was. She brushed the feeling away. They had known each other for years, she wasn't one to invade on their relationship. -
Lilac rolled her eyes, playfully shoving his shoulder. "You mister, are a world class idiot." She looked over at Kenna. "If you ever want me to beat him up for you, let me know."
Ander scoffed. "Like I couldn't take you."
Lilac raised her eyebrows, placing her hands on her hips. "Is that a challenge I hear?"
Ander raised his hands above his head. "No, ma'am."
"That's what I thought. Kenna, you can ride on Three," Lilac said, patting the dark horse's back affectionately. "Only Ander and Robo seem to know Crypta's location by heart, so I'll take Robo and you can babysit Andy for me. Sounds fair?" -
Kenna smiled and nodded. She just couldn't stay upset at Lilac. "Sure," she said. "I'll need help getting on the horse, though." She had made a fool of herself trying to get on a horse before, she wasn't about to do it again. "Why's his name Three?"
-
Lilac helped hoist Kenna onto the horse's back, despite the horse's nervous protest. "Because he's my third horse. He's lasted longer than the first two though."
Ander was stroking the horse's neck, trying to relax it before pulling himself up in front of Kenna. "Grim naming system."
Lilac shrugged. "I try not to get too attached. It would be a shame if I lost this one though, he's really something. All set?" -
"Yep," Kenna said. She felt something inside her get excited and happy at being so close to Ander. She didn't understand what she was feeling, she pushed it down, telling it to be quiet and to think reasonably. "Let's go."
-
Ohooo Kenna's got a crush~))
Ander gently stroked the horse's neck with a firm, steady hand. "Easy does it. There we go. Hold on tight, Kenna. We wouldn't want you flying off." -
(You're going to stretch this out as long as possible aren't you lol)
Kenna wrapped her arms around his torso, her insides exploding in absolute glee with the contact. What in the world? And this time it was harder to send away than the first time. Even after she told herself to get a grip on herself, there was still a strong lingering buzzing feeling inside of her. -
I just don't know how to cleanly make Ander start growing feelings so we're playing the long game hehe))
Something inside Ander's chest stirred at Kenna's touch. Stop it. Get a grip. You're a deadly assassin, not a school boy. He kicked the horse's sides and it charged off, hooves thundering against the ground as they sped through the woods. It quickly became clear that Three was made for speed and even Ander found it difficult to hang on to the horse's neck. -
Kenna let out a quiet yelp as they shot off and wrapped her arms tighter around Ander, while making sure not to squeeze him to death. She peeked over his shoulder to see where they were going, but all she saw were unrecognizable trees that kept on speeding out from the forest.
-
Lilac was taking her time behind them, Robo at her heels as he lead her towards Crypta's place. It was a sharp contrast to Ander and Kenna who were barreling through bush and tree as Three ran as fast as his nimble legs could carry him.
Ander tried to slow the horse down in vain. Three wanted to run, and he most certainly wasn't going to allow the stranger sitting on top of him to call the shots. They shot through the invisible barrier where Three came to an abrupt halt, nearly sending the two flying off.
