Crypta looked a bit disappointed, but nodded. "It's a good skill to have if you plan on roughing it in the wild." Her face brightened. "Maybe I can put the finishing touches on before you're back!"
Ander looked at Kenna pleasantly surprised, but also apprehensive. "Are you sure? It'll be outside of the invisible boundary. They'll be able to see you."
Crypta waved her hand dismissively. "She'll have you and Robo to protect her if needs be. She can't stay cooped up in here forever. Maybe a little hands on experience with the real world will help prepare her." -
"Yeah, Ander, let's go," Kenna said with a smile, walking out of the house before he could out up any more protests. "C'mon!"
-
Don't forget thy cane Kenna))
Ander stood and watched her a moment before finally nodding in agreement. He looked down at Robo. "You keep a close eye out, okay?" He lifted his head. "I'm coming, Kenna. Just a minute."
Crypta crossed her arms as Ander turned to face her, her voice lowered to a whisper when she spoke. "Do you have any idea why they're after her? How could she be a threat to Linnus? Maybe she knows something."
Ander combed his fingers through his hair, letting out a heavy sigh. "Honestly, I don't think she knows either. I'll ask questions, see if I can figure it out. Maybe if she gives them what they want, they'll leave her alone."
Crypta pursed her lips. "Ander, you and I both know that they'd never just let her go. They will kill her. She will never make it out there alone, not if Linnus keeps dogging after her."
Ander threw his hands up in the air. "What do you want me to do, go with her? If they find out what I've done, they won't rest until they have my head. We'd only endanger each other."
"Maybe it's time to fight back," Crypta said, her voice quiet.
Ander's face dropped. "You can't be serious."
"What choice do we have? Hide away in the woods for the rest of our lives, hoping Linnus will forget us when we know full well they won't?" She jabbed her finger into his chest. "When you're lying on your deathbed, do you want to die with regrets? I'm sick of locking myself away. I want to live."
"Don't you think-" he realized his voice was raised, lowering it. "Don't you think I want that too? I'm sick of running away from my problems. I'm sick of doing their dirty work for them. I'm so sick of it all sometimes I wish I were dead. But it's not that easy. We can't do it by ourselves."
"It's been done before," Crypta protested.
"So they got lucky. They managed to overthrow a division that let its guard down, kept weak security. Ever since that incident, Linnus security has been higher than ever before. The only reason they haven't rebuilt it is because the entire territory would riot," Ander explained.
"They certainly have the force to take them over," Crypta responded, pausing for a moment as she looked into Ander's eyes. "But you already knew that. You know something, don't you?"
Ander's gaze fell and Crypta's chest felt tight. "Ander, look at me. What do you know?"
Ander sucked in a sharp breath. "I don't know much, but when I broke into the database and saw what was really going on...I saw something else. I almost got caught, so I only saw a little."
Crypta clasped her trembling hands together. "What did you see?"
"They're planning something. Something big. Most of the files are old, but there were some newer ones. An old project that they plan on bringing back to life. They haven't taken over territory because they need all of their resources for something bigger." He shook his head. "Those first rebels probably think they won a great victory, but they're just lower on Linnus' to-do list. Linnus will destroy them and any rebellion that dares to rise."
Crypta stepped back and leaned against the counter, taking a moment to process. She closed her eyes tightly. "Then we need to stop them before that happens."
Ander opened his mouth to protest but Crypta gestured for silence. "Not a word, Ander. Go and give Kenna a good time, okay? We'll discuss this later tonight."
Ander started to head out of the door, pausing at the doorframe. "Should we tell her?"
Crypta was silent for a moment. "The less she knows, the better. It's best for her not to get involved in this."
Ander nodded and stepped outside, although a troubled expression remained on his face. -
Hopefully this helps make up for my late responses))
Enjoy the juicy lore)) -
(My goodness Spice)
Kenna frowned. She had tried to pick up bits and pieces of the conversation from where she was, but it hadn't worked very well. They'd been successful in being very quiet to each other.
She knew they were trying to keep her safe, but there might be situations in the future where she couldn't depend on them. How would she be safe then if she didn't know anything about her enemy?
But when she saw Ander walk out, her face naturally grew an expression of concern. "Is everything okay?" she asked. -
Ander lifted his gaze and his expression changed almost instantly to a sunny smile and he laughed, waving a hand. "Yes, everything's fine," he said with a distracted look behind his eyes. His smile dropped after a moment. "Well, no. Not everything. But today we'll take our minds off of it and have some fun. How does that sound?"
-
Kenna gave him a small smile. "Alright," she said. It would be good for the both of them. "I'm assuming Crypta has what we need? I'd rather not catch fish with my bare hands."
-
Robo answered Kenna's question by trotting towards the two, pulling fishing nets with him. He proudly set them at her feet, his tail wagging.
-
Kenna brushed the top of Robo's head since that was all she could reach and said, "Good boy."
"I guess this would be faster and maybe more productive than fishing poles," she commented. In all honesty she had been expecting fishing poles. -
"And where's the fun in that?" Ander said, picking up the nets and throwing them over his shoulder. "I prefer something a bit more hands on."
Robo excitedly ran around in circles, darting off towards the river and pausing every now and then to look back. -
Kenna chuckled at Robo's antics as she followed the metallic dog. She then glanced at Ander and said, "You know if I were you I'd put them around my shoulders like a cape."
-
Ander raised his eyebrows at that. "Like some sort of fish-related superhero? I'd prefer to keep my dignity," he said, his tone good-natured. "Now Robo, on the other hand, has no dignity to lose."
Robo stopped in his tracks, looking at Ander with the most offended expression a metal dog could have. -
(I mean there's auquaman)
Kenna let out yet another laugh. "Hey, the fish need defending too. Just think about the poor defenseless sea creature against the ruthless lionfish." -
"The lionfish needs to eat too. I think nature is best left alone," Ander shrugged. "Although I would make an absolutely-" he made a ridiculous pose. "-strapping superhero."
-
(Actually lionfish are invasive, eat everything in their path)
"Good luck with your interview at Superheroes Incorporated," Kenna said with a grin. "You'll definitely need it."
