Cassie nodded and took her hand back. "I get where you're coming from," she said. "You're a good person, I'm sorry he did that to you."
-
Kris raised one of his bushy eyebrows and narrowed his eyes at Cassie.
“A good person? You barely know me.” He grunted in a scruffy voice. -
"You took Porak in when most other people would have joined in on hurting him," Cassie said. "You also were at least somewhat concerned about me since you warned me about him. So far I'd say you're a good person."
-
“I suppose the warning didn’t do any good since the harm had already been done.” Kris gave Cassie a crooked smile, lightly chuckling at her attempts at cheering him up. It was cute. For a human, anyway. However, his soft gaze transitioned into a hardened stare. “But that doesn’t mean he isn’t still dangerous. You don’t know half the things he’s done to poor unsuspecting victims. Witches, werewolves, and the like. It would be best to cut him off from your life forever.”
-
"I can't do that until I see it for myself," Cassie said. "You should understand that, right? I can't accept something like that without any evidence to back it up."
-
Kris stared at her as if she had grown another head, his eyes as wide as saucers. “He attacked you on your first day of school, and has put you in danger more times than I can count! How is that not enough evidence? Porak is a dangerous creature, Cassandra.”
-
"He apologized, he changed his ways," Cassie said. "He didn't do that for you, so I can see why you're angry at him. But he did it for me, so I can't be angry at him."
-
Kris took a deep breath, his eyelids fluttering shut. His ears went back to its natural position, upright on the top sides of his head instead of pinned back. He finally blinked a couple of times before flicking his judgmental, slightly worried irises back over to Cassie.
“And you trust him completely?” -
Cassie couldn't give an answer right away. Did she? Fully and completely without an inkling of doubt?
The answer had to be no. There was always a chance he could turn on her, no matter how much he changed. He was still a predator, and she easy prey.
"I trust him the most any human can trust any magical creature, save for my parents," Cassie decided to say. -
Kris hummed and pondered over her answer before asking her another question.
“In that case, would you trust him to save your life?” Kris snarled, his face inching closer and closer to Cassie's, his hands gripping the table as he gradually moved closer. -
Cassie discretely scooted away from him. He was starting to kind of freak her out a bit. "He already has," she said. "So yes."
-
“Has he now?” Kris narrowed his eyes, glaring dangerously at Cassie through the small slits. “Well doesn’t that just make you a little-!”
A fist slammed down on the table, making a small cracking sound. Everyone who had previously been chatting in the cafeteria fell silent, their mouths agape as they watched the scene in terror. Kris, unable to finish his salty sentence, felt his breath get caught in his throat. His eyes widened in terror, his irises and head slowly moving towards the loud sound.
There he was.
Porak, with a graceful smile on his face and a fist on the table. Despite the friendly grin, his eyes and fist spoke of a clear danger. His aura was intimidating, making Kris shrink down into his seat.
“I’d love to have a chat you, Kris.” Porak stated. His voice was dripping with venom and his fist was pressed even further into the table. “But I believe you’re in my seat.”
Kris growled, his ears pinning back against his head as he gradually stood up. Porak squinted his eyes at him and lifted his fist from the table before wiping it with his other hand. It took every ounce of self restraint for Kris not to lunge at Porak.
“No, this is my seat now.” Kris snarled. “Ms. Brand and I haven’t finished discussing a small problem we have in this wretched school.”
Porak chuckled darkly, leaning forward, his face only centimeters away from Kris’s face. His eyes shot open, the color of his eyes flashing red. “Respectfully, f--- off.” -
Cassie had no idea what to do. This was going to escalate if she didn't do something about it. She was just going to have to play the diplomat.
"Ok," she said, pushing the two of them apart so that she was standing in between them with her arms stretched out, one facing each boy. "You two need to calm down." -
Every second that passed made Porak more and more furious. His fangs were starting to poke out from his mouth, and his nails were becoming sharper. Kris was baring his own teeth as well.
Porak stared down at Cassie in a frenzy. “He was threatening you.” He hissed. -
"He did no such thing, Porak," she said, coming to Kris's defense. If Kris spoke badly about Porak she would Porak. She needed to try to not let a brawl start in the middle of the lunchroom.
