"Birds mark their territory as well, and what they mark is their nest.” Porak explained, raising his index finger in the air as if he were making a point.
-
"Ok," Cassie said, figuring out where Porak was coming from with fire hydrants and bird nests.
"So what would being Claimed have meant for me?" she asked. -
"Okay, so, it's like the vampire and the thing they claimed is a couple.” Porak explained, making wild hand gestures as if it would help his explanation move more smoothly. “But the vampire is legally allowed to suck blood from the thing they claimed whenever they so please. Also, being claimed is something vampires do to their beloved if they get married or get in a relationship. It shows other vampires that the claimed individual is his and his only. For you, it would've meant that whomever claimed you would be able to suck your sweet blood whenever they please.”
-
Cassie blinked. She didn't feel like she could speak, her mind was going a million miles a minute. She forced herself to swallow a rock that had formed in her throat.
"Why - why did you want to claim me?" she asked quietly. -
"Oh!" Porak's eyes widened when he had realized what he said. "Originally, it was because your blood smelled abnormally sweet. Like a candy shop. If I were to claim you now, it would be for a different reason.”
Porak looked away from her, his fangs biting down hard on his lip. Not that he would ever tell her that specific reason, even if she pleaded with him. -
Cassie looked at him. "A different reason?" she asked.
-
"A different reason,” Porak confirmed, nodding his head.
-
"One that you'll explain to me?" Cassie prodded
-
Porak scoffed and rolled his eyes. "In your dreams! I respect you a lot, Cassie, but I refuse to give you a peek into my dumb brain.”
-
They just arrived at class, so Cassie rolled her eyes and said ,"Fine," to end the conversation.
-
Porak shrugged his shoulders and walked into the classroom.
After all the students had taken their seats, the teacher stood up, her smile bright and cheery. Quite different from how bland and snobbish it usually was seen as.
"Today, students, you’ll have a new classmate!” The teacher trilled. She pointed one of her long scaly fingernails at the door. "Please, come in, Mr. Nicolson!”
The knob of the door slowly turned right, the wooden door creaking ever so slowly as a young lad walked into the room. It was none other than the shady person Cassie had spotted earlier that day. -
Cassie stared at him wide-eyed. What in the world?
She subtly leaned over to Porak, muttering as quietly as she could without the teacher overhearing, "He's that weird guy who warned me to stay away from you." -
Porak had his fists clenched together tightly on his desk, his eyes narrowed at the new individual who had entered the classroom.
"I can see that.” -
"Don't do anything rash," Cassie warned him knowing he needed to calm down.
-
“Me? Doing something rash? What makes you say that?” Porak growled through grated teeth. “I could never do such a reckless thing in my life!”
