"I don't see why," Nathan said, his tail disturbing the pile of cushions. -
"That way we don't have to get down and scrub the carpet," Megan said.

"Why would you do that?" Nathan said.

"So that it stays clean," Megan explained. "Otherwise it's going to get all crusty and yucky."

Nathan was working his way through why that would be a bad thing. "Do humans get hurt when things aren't clean?"

"It is bad for their health," Megan agreed.

"Their health?" Nathan said. "Are you a not-human?"

"I am," Megan said. "I was just using improper grammar on accident."

"Oh, so you did an oopsie," Nathan said, nodding in understanding. "Now we make a box cake?"

"Sure," Megan said, walking into the kitchen.

Nathan scampered after her, running on four legs before standing up on two so he could peep at the counter. "Where's the box?" he asked curiously.

"In the cupboard," Megan said, reaching up.

Nathan hopped onto the counter and crawled up the cupboard. "Woah!"

"Nathan, I can't get to the cake mix if you're over the cupboard," Megan said.

"Where is it then?" he said, his head buried in the cupboard as he nosed around.
