"Really now? When I was a pup, and I got scared, I'd run like the wind. Perhaps it depends on the person to whether or not they run, dash, or stride further. Perhaps we should test that, if we go around the world striking down justice on people! Haha, we can compare how they all flee." He grinned at the pout. "They can find better. But I suppose we wouldn't need to leave them. Backup is always nice. Oh, fine. I will. Just so I can get info," Cyrus added hastily as if he had to act tough. The supplies were laid out beside Basil, sorted out in the steps the wolf would take to bind up the wound. "Bah, I can underestimate anyone. You can't stop me." He set to work at wrapping up the wound carefully for the other boy, falling silent as he worked. He didn't want to accidentally prod the lamb.
-
"I bet that's how Molly felt when I sent her to you. All lambs run differently. Some are fast, some hop, some stride. But no matter the way we run, we all have strong legs. It will be fun to hunt them, even give them a headstart." Basil hummed and relaxed into the bed, smiling at Cyrus. "They love you, Molly said so. Don't you 'oh fine' me. You know you want to listen in on my conversations with the pups because you're just as curious as they are." Basil flinched at the treatment to his tail, lightly shaking as the touch caused pulses of pain to spread throughout his body. He giggled through the pain, teasing the wolf. "You keep saying 'Bah' and I'm gonna call you a sheep."
-
"She looked more.. What's the word.. Determined. Determined to get you help before it would be too late. Molly is an interesting pup.. I'm glad I got to meet someone so eager to help you through all of the changes. Haha, damn right it will be. But if we can train our legs, no one will outmatch us! Minus perhaps animals built for running fast, like a cheetah." Cyrus grinned his famous wolffish grin, looking down at the other. "I'm glad they do.. Pfft! I do not! It's just valuable information," he insisted again, puffing out his cheeks for a few seconds. He noted Basil flinch, though he couldn't do much to help that. All he could offer was gentle touches until the wrap was all tied up and done. When the wolf finished, he stood, looking back at the other. "Bah, bah, bah~" The wolf sang as he went into the bathroom to fetch water and wash blood off of his hands.
-
"She didn't want to leave me there, but it's better that she got out. And she's a good pup, I think she looks up to you. I don't need to train my legs, they're strong already. Though something like a cheetah would be problematic." Basil rolled his eyes at the grinning wolf, finding that cheeky smile a bit irritating but cute at the same time. "No, you're curious. Like a puppy." He bit his lip until the wrapping was finished and sighed softly afterward, a giggle escaping him. "Sheepy wolf. Grrr. I'm hungry, I'm bored. Chase, chase, chase~" Basil teased back, watching the other go back to the bathroom.
-
"It certainly is. I'm glad you were smart enough to bargain with him and manage to keep yourself alive just long enough for us to get to you. If you hadn't, we wouldn't have noticed you were gone until it was too late.. I suppose we need to keep to positive thinking, eh? Molly's a little savor, that's for sure." Cyrus arched his back, sighing. He was tired after running all the way to save the other and carrying him. Sure, Basil was light because he was a lamb, but the weight had slowly taken it's toll on the wolf's back. "Cheetahs as creatures are problematic.. And if you've met cat-people, they are terrifyingly fast. I have yet to meet a cheetah person, though." He puffed out his cheeks at the lamb's response to his grin, snorting. "I am not! Information is valuable, you know it. I'm not in the slightest curious. Silly lamb, putting words in my mouth.. Quit it." Once the alpha had finished washing his hands, he returned to his side, lying down beside him and stretching his back. "We don't think about chasing all of the time. Just like you don't bah.."
-
"Of course I am. I'm not instinctive, I know how to use my words to my advantage. And I'm thankful for her quick response to get you to help us. I don't want to think about what would've happened had she not been able to get to you. That weirdo called me a hero like he was insulting me, but I just kept a promise is all.." He perked up at him, watching him stretch. Cyrus seemed to be stiff from all of the activity. "Aww, does Cyrus's back hurt? Sorry. Can't really rub the stress out for you. And I don't think I want to meet cheetahs, even though I'm sure they won't try to eat me." Basil carefully inched closer to the wolf, seeking some warmth from him. He grinned at the other and nuzzled his shoulder. "Admit it. You're curious about me." He rose a brow at the other and huffed. "Are you sure you don't think about chasing all the time? And maybe I do bah sometimes."
-
"You aren't the only one, then. I can play with words if I must. You really are something, you know that? The pack is thankful that you both are okay.. You to an extent, of course, seeing as that jerk harmed you in the end." He glanced down at the lamb, laughing and shrugging his shoulders as he relaxed into the bed. "It hurts, yeah, but not as much as it could. I'm fine, don't worry about it. You're the one with a serious, bleeding injury over there!" Cyrus laughed a bit, shaking his hands back and forth instead of his head. "They might be friendly. And if we're going to travel, we might just meet one. Don't be afraid to see new things, little lamb.." He closed his eyes, nodding. "Okay, fine. I'm curious about you. But aren't you curious about me too? No, no, I don't. I don't need to chase you if you're right next to me. Ahhh, I got you there, eh?"
-
"Sure you can. After you devour a part of them." Basil teased the wolf as he got closer. "But I am thankful that you came to help me and take care of me until the pain goes away. And I'm still alive, so that's good." The smaller narrowed his eyes at the other when he laughed and poked his nose. "Even though I was bleeding, I still need you to be all right in case someone else tries to harm us. "I hope they are. Maybe they'll offer some food for the pack, so you can all take a break from hunting. I'm looking forward to exploring the world, especially when we reach water.. I want to see aquatic life." Basil had shifted close enough to Cyrus to rest his head on his shoulder and relax. "Hmm.. I guess I'm a little curious about you, but you're way more open than I am. And I really can't run right now, so being next to you is really one of my only options. I guess. It's mostly young lambs that make that noise."
-
"His leg.. Or both of his legs.. His bottom half, even. Anything would sound right to take from him. A tail is important to many creatures. And he took it. He'll lose something of equal value." He rubbed his temples, nodding. "No problem. I owe it to you, and I promised I'd take care of you when I took you away from your home. Again, I'm fine, really! If we can lay here for a little bit, it won't ache so bad. You were just a little heavy." He blinked when his nose got bopped. "Mm, they might. I don't really know. We can found out about them together. Heh, we can stop by a lake or something soon if you want. Fish tastes good," he said out loud as he recalled a previous visit at a port. "Not fish-people, but fish. Fish people don't taste as good.." The alpha stilled when the lamb placed his head on his shoulder. "I'm open about my species, and my past.. It means nothing to me, so I guess I'm free to explain whatever." Yawning, he opened his eyes completely and looked at the other somewhat. "Don't ever try to run, anyway. Or I'll hunt you."
-
"I want his head on stick.. Or would that be too much to ask for? My tail is very important. It was all I had to distinguish me as a lamb. Now I just have this nub that I'll need to ask a doctor to look at it soon, just in case." The lamb scrunched his nose at the thought of eating any kind of meat, but he's always been told fish was different than the red meat of most other creatures. "I might try fish.. But I dunno how it will react with my body. I might just throw it back up even if I like it." Basil slowly shifted to look the wolf in the eye, taking in their ice blue color. "It's dangerous for a lamb to be open. Too many predators. We have to hide as many weaknesses as possible. And maybe I want to be hunted..." He mumbled, gradually leaning in to the other.
-
"That's a little gruesome.. I certainly like your thinking. We can try that, little lamb. Don't worry, there are some lambs with little nubs for tails naturally. I think it depends on the genes, of course, but.. It's not the end of the world. That sounds like a good idea, going to see a doctor. None of us are really good with that kind of stuff, if you couldn't tell already." Cyrus blushed a bit as he thought about how little he knew when it came to medicine. He knew how to wrap up wounds and clean them, but that was about it. "We can rest at an Inn for extra time if it makes you queasy. Just means more fish for us~" He smiled, but the smile faded as he realized that Basil was looking at him. The wolf gazed back at the other, blinking subconsciously. Now that he thought of it, the other's eyes were a beautiful shade of blueish grey. They were different from the eyes he saw through his pack. "Mm.. We won't let you be open," the alpha paused, realizing just how close they were. He murmured, "I'll hunt you, then," before starting to lean in. His chest was pounding rapidly, full of that stinging desire to claim the lamb and something more--
"Basil!" a shrill voice cried out from behind him. Cyrus mentally cursed and pulled away just in time to see Molly flinging herself at him. He yelled as the pup squirmed onto him and crawled her way over to the lamb. "Basil, Basil, Basil!" -
"He deserves it, and I want to take his head off in the most painful way possible. And I don't think that's very accurate. I know some will have their tails surgically removed for hygiene reasons, but I've never seen a lamb with a naturally short tail. The doctor might have to do some stitching to make sure bone isn't exposed and so the skin grows right." Basil glanced back at the bloody wrapped nub and smiled at the other. "But thank you for taking care of me. Maybe you can help me clean it up tomorrow. And that's mean. If you get all the fish and I get sick, I'll need someone to go get me some vegetation to eat." The lamb prince pouted but was grateful that Cyrus would willingly stop somewhere for him to rest if he were to fall ill. Cyrus made him feel as safe as being back home, despite losing his tail, which he knew the wolf would never let such a situation happen again. The alpha wasn't so bad, and Basil could feel something when they looked at each other. They were so close that he could feel the other's breath...
But he carefully moved away when Molly came running in, making the lamb giggle when she climbed over her alpha to get to him. "I'm here, Molly. Be careful climbing on Cyrus with those little nails of yours." Basil smiled and kissed her forehead, still making sure to lie on his side or stomach. -
"Do explain to me what's the most painful way to take off someone's head, little lamb," Cyrus asked with a raised eyebrow. "I guess I know nothing about your species, then. All that I knew was a lie." He shifted a bit to get comfortable on his side. He had never been this close to someone before, and it was the first time that anyone has rested their head on his shoulder. The motion was rather peaceful for him. "You're welcome, Basil. Oh, don't worry! There's not only fish. Several places have options for people like you." He suddenly wondered if that sounds mean. He didn't want to upset the lamb, he didn't want him to go away. He wanted the space between them to get closer. He wanted to find out what the pounding in his heart meant. But Molly was there now, and he winced as her claws dug into him. "Hi, Molly," he said. She sat between the two men, her ear flicking. "You both had me worried! How dare you worry me. I could have had a heart attack. Then it would be your fault."
"I don't think you can get a heart attack like that, Molly," Cyrus muttered. -
"I'm not sure yet, but we'll figure it out together. Maybe strapping him to a horse and having it pulled off." Basil smiled at the other's ignorance. "Naturally short tails on lambs are a story. Any lamb with a short tail lost it somehow." The lamb had been comfortable with the wolf, so comfortable that he felt like being out of his grasp was like standing in a field of flames. At first, he felt like he was going to be a slave, a toy, nothing more than a pet to do wolves' bidding. But now he felt safe and secure, like part of a big family again. "We'll have to look around for food that suits me then." He giggled, allowing Molly to settle between them and reaching up to pet her head. "You were worried? I'm sorry, sweetie. But I'm okay. And I'm glad you got away. Now, let me see those fingers so I can make alpha help you clean them up." Basil had almost forgotten that Molly hadn't gotten away completely unharmed, but now that she was there, the thought was pushed to the front of his mind.
-
"Ouch. You're cruel, Basil, you're cruel. But that would be painful, and if the horse isn't strong, it could take a bit of time for his head to get ripped off.. That might be a good idea." The alpha blinked, scowling. He didn't realize just how little he knew about lambs until now. "I wish I had known that before.. I used to think that a lamb could have any length of tail by genes, not really by injuries.. It must only go for species like dogs," he thought aloud as he began to think about what he had just learned. Cyrus had an easier time understanding species when he compared one with another, or contrasting them. He had always learned things that way since he was a pup- visuals were nice for him as well. "It won't be too hard, and seeing as you found vegetation while you were out today, I wouldn't be surprised if you found stuff over there." The older snorted, closing his eyes and putting his hands over them to block out the light for a moment. Molly pouted at the alpha, 'hmph'ing and turning all of her attention to Basil. "I was very, very, very worried! You're lucky I can run as fast as a.. A.. Uh..." "A cheetah?" the alpha offered the pup, a smirk crossing his face.
"Yeah!" Molly exclaimed. "I run like a cheetah. And now we're all safe again." She held out her hands after a moment, her tail wagging behind her. The cuts had already been washed up, though there were marks visible on each of her fingers. "Momma already helped me."
