Rhyder shrugged. He understood some of what she meant, but he didn't feel the same way. He didn't know what it was like to have those kinds of things or people in his life, so how could he? Sighing, he shook his head. "I kind of get what you're saying, but I don't know what that's like, sorry. If I had had your life, then I probably wouldn't want to give it up either though."
-
Sylvya nodded. "Well, that is understandable; can't miss what you never had. With that in mind, I'm surprised our fathers thought we could be compatible." She tried to imagine the calm, collected Rhyder and her hot-headed, active self living together for the rest of their lives. She shook her head at the thought. "Maybe... Maybe when there is peace and everyone has settled, you could come visit. Make some friends and such..." She glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, wondering how he'd react to her strange suggestion.
-
Rhyder shrugged when he thought about their compatibility. He'd heard that opposites attract, but their fathers may not have even been thinking about compatibility when they arranged the marriage. When he heard her offer to come visit, he couldn't help but smile a bit. "Yeah, that sounds nice... I might take you up on that." The offer really did sound good to him, and he was happy that Sylvya suggested it. Despite their differences, he thought that the two of them might actually be able to get along.
-
Sylvya nodded a bit and smiled. "Mm, good..." She glanced down at her hands and noticed that she had been playing with the phone, grabbing it with two fingers and spinning it, then grabbing the other end and spinning it. She dropped the phone and stared at her hands, not sure what to say or do next.
-
Rhyder nodded back at her. Seeing her drop the phone, he remembered that he had offered to help her learn how to use it, even if just the basics. He didn't have much experience with iPhones, but he was confident he could show her a few things about it. "Glancing from the phone up to Sylvya, he gestured to the phone. "Want me to help you get that set up now so you can start using it?"
-
"Oh...yeah. Sure." She gladly handed the device to him, already feeling that she was going to break something, if not the phone itself. "Work your magic" she added teasilgly. She continued to look at the box and the rest of the contents and noticed "64 GB" written on the side. Although she knew enough about storage to understand that was a lot normally, it meant nothing to her when it came to phones.
-
Once he had finished explaining the ins and outs of the phone to Sylvya, Rhyder glanced up at the clock on the wall. A half-hour had already passed, even though it felt much shorter than that to him. Remembering that there was no rush to do anything at the moment, Rhyder relaxed a bit. Today was the move in day, so he figured they should just take it easy for now and adjust to living in this apartment together. Noticing that one familiar feeling in his stomach, he realized that it might be a good idea to get more familiar with the kitchen now and have lunch. "Turning to Sylvya, he gestured toward the door. "I'm getting a bit hungry, want to eat lunch? It is about that time of day..."
-
Sylvya had tried to soak up everything Rhyder and explained to her, and was taking this time to put numbers into the new phone. She had been able to get three in, with his help, and was trying to get the rest on her own. Rhyder had explained which buttons to tap for what, but she was still getting a little frustrated, and was grateful when the older suggested a lunch break. "Yeah... That's a good idea."
-
Rhyder smiled and nodded, heading to the kitchen and checked the fridge and pantry. It was already a little past noon, so he didn't want to try and make anything that would take a long time to prepare. Noticing some ramen packets int he pantry, he checked the fridge again. With some of the vegetables and beef slabs in the fridge, the normally plain ramen could have a bit more flavor. Remembering that he wasn't just cooking for himself, he decided to ask his fiancee if she was okay with that. "Hey, how do you feel about ramen? We have some beef and veggies here to add a bit more flavor to it if you'd like."
-
Sylvya raised her eyebrows, a bit surprised at the creativity. It was strange but sounded good. "Yeah, that sounds great! But I'm warning you, I cannot cook...at all." She blushed sheepishly and rubbed the back of her head.
-
Smiling, Rhyder nodded and got the ingredients out. "Alrighty, ramen it is! Not being able to cook is fine! I can take care of that! Do you think you could cut vegetables?" Turning to her, he held up some green onions, carrots and a knife. He figured she probably could handle a kitchen knife easily based on how skilled she seemed to be with her other knives.
-
Sylvya hesitated a second before nodding and taking the knife and vegetables. "Yeah..yeah, I can do that." She went over to the counter where she got out a cutting board and a small bowl to put the cut food in. While rinsing off the carrot, she thought about how the veggies usually looked when cut. She returned to the cutting board and, after looking at the knife to figure out how it should be held, went to work on the carrot. A few minutes in, she realized it was actually kind of fun. The corner of her mouth twitched as she picked up speed. A few seconds later, the carrot was done. Never having seen the end of a green onion in food, she chopped that off and stuck it with the ugly end of the carrot. "Ah..how many of these do you want?"
-
Once Sylvya had taken the veggies, Rhyder started boiling the water for the ramen. While he waited for the water to boil, he began to fillet the beef he had found, turning it into smaller, bite-sized pieces. He found himself smiling a bit when he heard Sylvya's cutting speed increase. Upon hearing her question, he turned to check on her. "Oh, just one is fine, chopped up to be about the same size as the carrot pieces."
-
That wasn't exactly the question she had been asking, but it was good enough for her. She found that cutting green onions was ridiculously different than cutting onions, and there was no real way to go fast with what she had. It took her a little longer, but she had kind of gotten the hang of it by the time she finished. Turning to face Rhyder, she asked what he wanted her to do with them.
-
Glancing down at what she had cut up, he was satisphied with how it looked. "Now, could you..." He looked up and found his face barely an inch away from hers. He had forgotten that this kitchen was very small and that she would be so close. Startled, he instinctively jumped back a little, slamming his hand onto the counter for stability. Unfortunately, his hand hit the cutting sheet he had been using to fillet the beef, which slipped and fell with him. Reaching out for anything to catch his balance, he grabbed Sylvya's hand, causing her to fall with him as he slammed onto the floor.
