Thank you ^~^
Sylvya nodded, inwardly glad that he had chosen that side, since she was actually wanting the side facing the wall. She liked closed spaces, and if she shut the closet door, that might make her side seem smaller. Also, she hated sleeping next to windows. Setting the duffel on the ground and unzipping it, she started unpacking her clothes. She noticed that the dresser had six drawers, three on each side, and assumed they would use the side corresponding with the side of the bed they slept on. She silently packed her clothes into her side of the dresser, leaving a few to be hung up in the closet. She would wait until later to unpack her underclothes. No way Rhyder was going to see those. -
Rhyder was glad Sylvya had the same idea about the drawers as he did, since it made it a bit easier for both of them. He packed all his clothes into the three drawers, glad he hadn't brought anything that needed to be hung up. It meant all his things were nice and compact, and Sylva would have full use of the closet if she wanted. Moving to his bedside table, he started packing some books he had brought along into it, just in case he felt like reading in bed. Once he was done with that, he looked out the window that was there, hoping the curtains would block enough sunlight in the morning.

Sylvya didn't have much for the closet. Just her fatigues and uniforms. Although the Kramierys were civilians, they had lot of military training and ranking going on. Since they were preparing for battles, the leader several generations ago felt it appropriate to put a slight military twist on things. It helped the formations, as well as keeping people prepared, in line, in shape, yet free at the same time. They went by Army rankings, and Sylvya herself was a major. There was no favoritism showed to blood Kramierys over "recruits," so everyone had to work equally hard. She bit her lip and walked out of the closet back to her bed. As she was searching around for anything else she could put up that wasn't personal, her hand hit something foreign. She pulled it out, wrinkled her nose, and tossed the iPhone6 box onto the bed. "Uh...."
-
Rhyder heard something hit the bed and Sylvya's voice, he turned to see what it was, spying the box on the bed. Glancing from Sylvya to the box and back up at her, he became confused. It was obvious she was not happy with it, but he wasn't sure why. "Is something wrong...?" Not really sure how to approach this, he decided to just go with the obvious question of what was wrong.
-
Sylvya detached the note that had come with it and held it up. Hesitating before unfolding it, she took a minute to read her father's barely legible scrawl.
Dear Sylvya,
I know I haven't been the best dad, and I'm sorry for that. I never took the time to watch you grow and mature; the fact that you call me Martin instead of Dad is proof enough of our distance. Just the same, I want you to have this. I know it won't make up for where I failed, so maybe consider it a thank-you for going along with the peace plan? I took you away from your friends, maybe this will help you stay in touch with them (and you can do a s--- ton more on this than that flip-phone). Again, I'm sorry.
I love you,
Martin
Sylvya sighed and rubbed her head. She set the note on the box in case Rhyder wanted to read it. "He's trying to apologize, it seems. I mean, hell, it's really nice, but still..." -
Rhyder hesitantly took the note and looked it over. He wasn't sure if it was okay for him to read it or not, but he figured it was okay from where she had put it. "...Still isn't enough of an apology for everything. A new phone and an apology letter isn't enough of an apology for not being around for you and then forcing you into this marriage, right?" He put the note back on the box and glanced at Sylvya, wondering if he had hit the nail on the head or not.
-
Sylvya started nodding slowly, the nod growing with every word Rhyder said. She looked up at him, a little surprised. "Yeah.. I guess that's exactly it.." She looked at him for a while before turning back towards the box on the bed. "Yeah.." Her nose twitched and she made an odd face. "But I reckon I might as well take what I can get, right...?" She took a pen and poked the box, as if expecting something to jump out at her.
-
Seeing Sylvya nod at what he was saying pleased Rhyder a bit. He was glad to know that she agreed with him on that matter. He knew what it was like to not have his father around, and he wouldn't accept such small things as an apology either. He chuckled when she poked the box. "Yeah, take what you can get from it! And if you want some help setting up the phone, I can help a bit. I only know the basics, but I can at least help with that." Rhyder shrugged and looked to his books to make sure they were organized. "And hey, you've gotten an apology from him at least. Its more than I'll get from my old man..." He trailed off, not sure if he should keep going.
-
Sylvya smiled a bit and chuckled sheepishly. "Yeah, that'd be nice! Electronics aren't really my forte.. Basic stuff, I can handle, not...this." She picked up the box and started looking at the contents and phone type. She just wanted to explore a little before actually using it. At Rhyder's comment, she glanced up at him. "How do you mean? You and your dad not get along either?"
-
Rhyder sighed and shook his head slowly. Turning to look at Sylvya, he shrugged. "No, not really. From reading the letter, it sounds like your dad wasn't around much for you. Mine wasn't either. He was always busy with work and running the family that he didn't have time for me. I was raised to be the heir to the family, but not by him. It was always the assistants. And almost all of them seemed to have a stick up their butt, so I never got close to any of them either. I don't think my father realizes what he's done wrong, and even if he has, I don't think he'd apologize at this point. I spent my whole life trying to get him to see me as a good son and make him happy, but I doubt that will happen. Its probably why I've been told I have a bland personality..." Realizing he had been ranting for a while, he stopped talking and looked away embarrassed. "Sorry, you probably don't want to hear my whole life's story now..."
-
Sylvya shrugged. "You're fine, I don't mind. I was like that too, only everybody raised me. My superiors, the people my age, my mom for a while. Everyone helped out. For just about everyone older than me, I was either their daughter, their granddaughter, or their sister. I wanted my dad to notice me too. That's partly why.." She ran a finger through her bright red hair.
-
Rhyder sighed and nodded. "Alright. Oh, that must have been nice..." He had only ever gotten to a few people in the Shroud group, and their relationship was never very deep, so he never really knew what it was like to have that feeling of comradery. When Rhyder heard her mention her hair, he nodded slowly. He remembered that in their first meeting, the bright red had certainly caught his eye. "I see... sounds like we both have a bit of father issues."
-
Sylvya nodded. "Yeah, I guess we do.." She set the phone on the bed and sighed. "And some people think that being an heir is so cool.."
-
Rhyder nodded and sighed, sitting down on his side of the bed. "Yeah... They have no idea what its like, especially in our positions. I honestly wish I could live a 'normal' life, and not have to deal with any of this heir stuff..." He sighed again, daydreaming a little about what it'd be like to have a "normal" family.
-
Sylvya shrugged. "I don't. I don't think I could live a normal, calm life. I was happy where I was. All that was going on, I guess it was a part of me. The hectic, the crazy, the danger...everything. I'd never trade it, even if it meant having a dad that paid attention. I think I got more from everyone than I could have from one person. You know?"
