Sylvya immediately stopped all movement. She didn't know how to explain that part of herself, nor did she want to. "I'm fine." She wasn't mad at Rhyder, he was just as much a victim of this as she was, but she also didn't know how they were supposed to become friends in this situation. She still refused to explain the hair problem though, and she pulled her knees up to her chest in an attempt to get a little comfier.
-
Catching onto the fact that she didn't want to talk about it, Rhyder nodded and dropped the subject. "Alright then. And hey, I'm sorry you were dragged into this whole 'engagement' mess, its my father's fault for coming up with this plan in the first place... I still don't know what he was thinking. This kind of logic only works in fiction..." Realizing he was starting to ramble, he immediately shut up and sighed.
-
The edge of Sylvya's mouth curved up a little as she listened to his little ramble. She had admitted earlier that he was pretty hot, and his voice matched. Brushing away that thought, she shrugged for what she felt was the millionth time. "Hey, they both agreed it would work. It was just as much my dad as yours. Although... I guess for them, it was a good plan. Get the house to themselves, bring peace, and not have to deal with emotional teenagers all in one transaction." Her dad never really talked to her, so she had just thrown in the emotional teenager bit to make the whole thing sound better.
-
Rhyder couldn't hold back the chuckle that escaped his lips. Getting their teenage kids out of the house would be any pair of father's dream. "That's true... and even if this was kinda forced on us, we still get to be out of our homes, away from idiotic fathers and nearly constant surveillance. So, you know, that's kinda nice."
-
Sylvya fell silent at that remark, already missing her arsenal and fatigues. She allowed her mind to drift for a minute, back to playing war games in the field, seeing how far away they could get before they didn't hit the mannequin right in the head, sneaking out of the house to play 2 am laser tag, listening to the splash of the smaller kids as they dove into the pool... She bit her lip and stared out the window, trying to erase the memories from her head. She missed that, but this was her life now. "Yeah..."
-
Realizing he may have said something wrong, Rhyder frantically tried to think of something to change the topic. Alright, come on Rhyder, probably the hottest girl you've ever met is sitting there, getting depressed because of something you said. How will you change the topic? Gulping, he said the first thing that came to mind. "Hey, I'm a bit thirsty... you want anything to drink?" DAMN IT!! Was that really the first thing you thought of to say?!
-
Sylvya popped out of dream world and stared at him curiously. She was about to reject his offer on this basis of him being a Shroud and probably wanting to poison her, but she figured that probably wasn't on his to-do list, considering the situation. She thought for a second before slowly nodding. "Sure... But I can get it..!"
-
Hoping she didn't think he was a complete idiot now, Rhyder breathed a small sigh of relief when she took him up on his offer. Shaking his head, he refused to make her get up. "No, I offered, so I'll get it! Just stay ther and get comfortable." He walked over to the fridge and peered inside, shouting out drink options to his fiancee. "Okay, so we've got milk, orange juice, Coke, and... um... tap water. Take your pick!" As he said tap water, he glanced at the sink and began to wonder where the cups were in this kitchen.
-
Sylvya winced at the mention of Coke and quickly replied with a request for tap water. Not knowing if there was ice already made, she kept silent on that bit and took Rhyder's advice, leaning back in the chair and getting as comfortable as she could be in her new surroundings.
-
Afet hearing her request, Rhyder began searching the cupboards for cups, finally finding them in the last one checked. He poured them both a glass of water from the sink and brought it back into the living room, handing Sylvya her glass before sitting on the couch again. Taking a sip of his water, Rhyder glanced out the window, wondering what to talk to Sylvya about next.
-
Sylvya murmured a shy "thank you" and gratefully accepted the glass. She had downed half of it before she realized how thirsty she had been. Sighing and keeping the cup in her lap, she stared at it as she tried to figure out what to talk about. Whenever something weird and unexpected happened, her friends liked to play a "what would you have done before..." game. It was fairly simple; what would the person have done if put in this situation however long ago. In her case, two days ago, what would she have done if she was sitting in the same room as Rhyder Shroud? The redhead shifted uncomfortably and tried to make her mind change the subject.
-
Catching the uncomfortable shift out of the corner of his eye, Rhyder decided that maybe he should ask more introduction questions. They still knew almost nothing about each other, and if they were going to live together, they should know a bit more about the other. Clearing his throat, he looked from the window back to Sylvya. "Um... so when is your birthday?"
-
Sylvya glanced up and locked eyes with him for a second before going back to staring at her lap. "Ah, December 3rd. I'll be 19, I suppose. I was an April Fool's joke.. My mom wanted a kid, but dad didn't, so on April 1st, she fooled him by saying she would take a morning-after pill. Well, she didn't. She told him the news on Father's Day, ironically." Sylvya pressed her lips together, already feeling that she'd said too much.
-
After hearing her story, Rhyder tried to hold back a chuckle and failed, then covered his mouth, realizing that he hadn't held it back. Hoping she didn't think chuckling was rude of him, he cleared his throat. "Sorry, sorry, that's just a bit funny. Also clever of her. Quite the Father's Day present!" Realizing that he should also say something about himself too, he took a sip of his water and Started on his story. "My birthday is August 24th, and I'll be 19 this year too. Both my parents planned for me, but before they knew if I was a boy or a girl, my mother got hasty and bought all baby girl things. Needless to say, I wore a lot of pink as a baby."
-
Sylvya heard the chuckle and smiled at him, glad that he didn't find her irritating for talking so much. She nodded a little and held a hand to her own mouth to hide a grin. "Oh I see. That had to quite the surprise, then! Mothers can be such interesting creatures.."
