“Hey, okay, okay” Liam said softly, wrapping his arms around Jared and holding him up. “Take a breath, just one breath-“

Jared tried his best to calm down the shaking, taking deep breaths along with Liam. He clung to the blonde and buried his face in his neck, letting out a choked sob. “She’s- She’s gonna kill me- I can’t- I can’t show my face a-at home or church ever- ever again-“

“Hey, calm down, nobody’s gonna kill you, Jare, it’s gonna be okay,” Liam whispered. “What are you talking about?”

“M-My mom, she’s- She’s gonna f---ing kill me-“ “Jared, you’re safe, no one’s gonna hurt you,” Michael said softly, crouching beside the boys. “This- This has to do with your parents and them being homophobic, right?” Jared flinched but nodded after a short moment, exhaling shakily as he curled closer to Liam.

Liam blushed, holding Jared tighter. “Okay- uh- it’s okay if you’re gay, Jared. Your mom’s opinion doesn’t define you-“

“But- But Pastor Matthew says I can’t- But then when he- he touched me-“ Jared let out another choked sob, clinging to Liam. “Woah, what do you mean, ‘when he touched you’? What happened, Jared?” Michael asked, worry in his voice.

Liam froze, glancing up in fear to Evan. “Woah- Jared, that’s not okay-“ Evan said, crouching next to Jared. “I-“ He sighed, pausing for a minute, slightly nervous because he had to report that. “Are you comfortable telling us more?”

Jared paused, tempted to shake his head. He stopped himself, knowing this had to come out sooner or later. He told them everything, about how his pastor at his church had raped him one day at youth, on a day Liam hadn’t come. “And- and then, he told me I- I had sinned because- because I had sex with a guy, and-“ He exhaled shakily, clinging to his best friend. “I never- I never told anyone because I- I was scared I’d g-get in trouble-“

“Oh my God,” Liam said quietly, holding Jared tightly. “I- I am so sorry-“ “Jared, we are so proud of you for telling us, that’s a really hard thing to do,” Evan said gently, rubbing Jared’s back. “And I promise- something’s gonna be done about that, okay? He will never touch you or get near you again-“

Jared nodded shakily, leaning into Liam’s touch. “When- When did this happen?” Michael asked, sitting beside Jared and grabbing his hand, gently squeezing. “It-“ He paused, exhaling shakily. “I was around 11 when- when it happened-“ “Holy f---ing s---,” Michael muttered, his voice shaking a little as he squeezed his friend’s hand.

“He- he won’t get away with this, Jared, I promise,” Liam whispered, gently rubbing the boys back. -
Jared exhaled shakily, curling closer to Liam. “I’m sorry I- I’ve been an ass all day,” he murmured, resting his head on the blonde’s shoulder. “I mean, yeah, you kinda were- But we forgive you,” Michael teased, gently nudging Jared’s side. The brunette chuckled, leaning into his friend’s touch. “Thanks,” he said with a quiet chuckle, exhaling softly.

Liam took a deep breath, rubbing Jared’s back as he continued to hold him close. “Yeah, don’t worry about it. But- I think- with this we all have a question- was this brought up because of.. Pastor or because of… something else?”

Jared froze, his face heating up. “Uh- N- No comment-“ “Dude, c’mon, just tell us!” Michael said, throwing his hands up in the air. “I-“ Jared sat up a little, staring at Liam. “Can- Can I talk to you, alone?”
