"it's not my reaction that's the worst, it's my parents. If I throw a tantrum I loose my computer. If I throw another tantrum before I get it back then they turn off the electricity." Octavia said. Her parents hated tantrums, especially her mom.
-
“Well, that’s a s--- way to go about parenting you,” Adrienne muttered, frowning. “They shouldn’t do that- they’re not supposed to react that way, like? The f---??”
-
"it's because yelling is getting in an attitude and screaming flailing shaking and hitting are things children do. Also my mom tries to stop my tantrums by holding me down and I end up really hurting her which makes tantrums even worse." Octavia said. She hated being held down in the moments of her tantrums because she'd lash out further.
-
“Oh my God- You do know that’s like, borderline abusive, right??” Adrienne asked, a worried look on their face.
-
"it doesn't count as abuse if the parent slash guardian is trying to help. This can vary by country and by state but it's a general rule. My mom is only trying to help with my tantrums but she doesn't do it right and makes it worse." Octavia said. Her mom always apologized after her tantrums but it never really mattered.
-
“But- That’s not okay, even so,” Adrienne said, a look of concern on their face. “Like, that’s clearly not helping you.”
-
"whether it helps or not doesn't really matter. I have to get to class." Octavia said, finally standing up. She opened the door again and looked for a clock somewhere around the halls.
-
“Again, I- I’m really sorry for keeping you from your class, and- and panicking you,” Adrienne murmured, exhaling softly. “I- I think I’m just gonna, stay out here for a bit,” they added quietly, turning around and pulling out the packet of cigarettes they had.
-
"you should really go to class eventually, it'll help with your grades." Octavia said before heading through the halls. She walked slowly with uncertainty. Octavia wanted to ask for help but was far too scared to get in trouble for missing class. She looked around for any other students but the hallways were eerily silent.
-
Adrienne watched them walk in before turning, walking off. They lit another cigarette and brought it up to their mouth, exhaling tiredly. “Just another f--- up on my part, I guess,” they muttered, shaking their head. “Go figure…”
-
Octavia wandered through the halls and eventually found one of her classmates outside of her 5th hour. "What hour is it?" Octavia asked. "It's fourth hour." Her classmate replied. Octavia walked anxiously to her fourth hour, dreading what her teacher would say.
-
Adrienne sighed and walked over to the bench they were sat on before, sitting down and exhaling another puff of smoke. They exhaled and closed their eyes, leaning back against the metal bench.
-
Octavia held her hand over the doorknob anxiously. As far as she remembered this teacher hated tardiness. Octavia took a deep breath and held it. This teacher was usually nice to her, but would she still be nice after Octavia walked in late. Octavia opened the door to a sharp nosed woman who was ready and willing to ask questions, however it was not her usual teacher, this made Octavia grateful to any sort of higher being.
-
Adrienne stayed outside, laying onto the bench, continuing to smoke until they forgot about Octavia and the situation with her.
-
Octavia was able to sit down and finish her assignments with only a small lecture. It didn't matter if a substitute was mad at her, they weren't a permanent teacher.
