“Suuure, whatever you say, Little Miss Perfect,” Adrienne teased, leaning into Octavia’s side and taking a sip of their Redbull. “Damn, almost out-“
-
"the empty can should go into the recycling. Aluminum is better recycled." Octavia said. She drew a recycling symbol on Edgar Allen Poe's forehead.
-
“And you’re an Earth lover too? Crazy~“ Adrienne joked, chuckling softly. They chugged the last of the Redbull and stood, setting the can on the ground. They stamped their foot down on it once, flattening it before picking it up. They pulled the tab off and pocketed it, looking around. “You see a recycling can anywhere?”
-
Octavia looked up from her notebook and down the pathway to a huge trashcan. There was a small recycling bin beside it. "There's one over there." Octavia said pointing. "And it's important to care about the earth. 1,000 fish die each month from trash in the ocean." Octavia said
-
“Damn, that kinda sucks,” Adrienne said as they scrunched their nose, walking over and tossing out the can. They turned back and sat down, resting an arm behind Octavia’s shoulder.
-
"marine animals are the most affected by the current trash crisis. Deer and moose also get stuck in nets and will starve to death or worse." Octavia continued to ramble on about the dangers of pollution as she wrote William Shakespeare and started to draw Shakespeare caught in a net.
-
“Can I ask you a question? You don’t have to answer of anything, I’m just curious,” Adrienne said, continuing to watch Octavia draw.
-
"what is it?" Octavia said as she shaded in Shakespeare. On the next page she started drawing a diagram of plastics in the ocean and their effects on aquatic life.
-
“Are you autistic?” Adrienne asked, watching Octavia for a moment. “Or like, do you have ADHD? Something in that realm? Because you remind me of my little brother, who’s autistic.”
-
"I am not on the spectrum. My parents say that I am perfectly normal." Octavia said. Her parents got very offended whenever the teacher suggested she might be autistic. They also got offended whenever they said her sister might be bipolar. They got offended a lot. Octavia didn't understand why.
-
Adrienne nodded, running a hand through their hair. “Sorry if that was pretty forward, just wanted to ask,” they said, looking up at the sky. “Hm, I wonder how much of class we’ve missed by now~”
-
"wait class... I have to get to class!" Octavia said getting up and slamming her notebook shut she walked quickly as she frantically looked for a clock or anything to tell her the time before realizing she didn't know which classes were going on at the moment. She walked more rigidly as she started to panic. If she couldn't go to class her grades would drop and if her grades drop her life drops then she works at a gas station and dies in a robbery with a bad job and no hopes
-
Adrienne jumped up, following Octavia. “Hey, relax,” they said awkwardly, moving to her side. “Just- Tell your teacher it was my fault, I’m sure they’ll excuse youxl
-
"no, it doesn't work that way. They'll be upset at me. What time is it? What hour is it at this time?" Octavia asked as she walked up to the school. It was not okay, she could not miss class. Octavia was panicking.
-
“Hey- Hey, look at me, Octavia,” Adrienne said, stopping the girl from moving. “Take a deep breath with me, okay? In and out.” They took a deep breath in then exhaled, waiting for her to copy.
