“Alright,” Nick said softly, nodding. He scanned over all the items in the closet before glancing at Karl again.

"Then the other door out in the lobby area is to our mini vet clinic," Karl added, gesturing to the door they came in through. "No one's allowed back in there unless our vet need us, since y'know, none of us went to school for it or anything, but it's a nice little area. And our vet on duty is really good at his job."

Nick nodded, putting his hands in his pockets. He glanced over to where Karl was pointing, then back at Karl. “Makes sense, makes sense.”

"And, that's pretty much it," Karl finished, chuckling awkwardly. "Not much else to it, I think. The boss's office is connected to it, but I don't really have much to say about it?" He turned, looking down at the papers on his clipboard. "Do you have any questions?" -

Nick glanced at the clipboard, then back at Karl. “Is there a certain schedule that we have to follow? For like feeding and letting the dogs out and whatnot?” -

"Not really, we usually feed all the animals once in the morning and once at night before the shop closes," Karl replied. "For some animals we have set schedules for them, but we post those in the group chat. I can get you set up in that in a bit, but first I need to ask you some questions." -

Nick nodded. “Alright. What are they?” -

"First, what animals are you comfortable with handling? Because we all sorts who come through the system, both for adoption or just for checkups or doctor visits," he said, glancing down at his clipboard for a moment. "Are there any you can't handle or would prefer not to?" -
“Uh, I’m comfortable with all animals, I think,” Nick said, thinking for a moment. “I don’t love spiders though, do you get a lot of those in here?”

"We've gotten one or two, for doctor visits, but never to be adopted," Karl said with a short chuckle. "Next, what all experience have you had with caring for pets? Would fostering Bee and Eli be your first time?"

“Oh, no, I’ve grown up with animals my whole life. My mother was a vet, and she loved animals. I don’t think I could tell you how many dogs I had during my childhood,” Nick said with a chuckle.

"Aw, that sounds awesome," Karl said with a smile, writing something down on the clipboard. "I wish I grew up with that experience, it sounds so fun!"

Karl giggled, smiling at Nick. He hummed for a moment, glancing down at the clipboard and scanning it. "Now- These questions, they're mandatory so I have to ask everyone," he added, looking back up at Nick. "Have you ever been apart of a situation relating to animal abuse and/or neglect of pets? Not like, hearing cases at your mom's clinic, but like, have you yourself been in a situation similar?" -

Nick thought for a moment before shaking his head. “No, I have not.”
