“Alright,” Nick said with a nod, smiling a little bit as he picked up the pen, starting to fill in the packet.
-
Karl walked back out of the room, grabbing the food for Eli and Bee. He grabbed the medications for the sweet rabbit that she needed to get healed before turning, walking out of the room and back to the front. He set down the box with the food and medication, checking to make sure he had everything.
-
“Uh, one more question,” Nick said, glancing at Karl as he wrote stuff down. “Could I volunteer here? Do you guys need volunteers?”
-
"Yeah, we're always looking for volunteers!" Karl replied with a smile, reaching over to a container on the desk behind the counter. He opened it and pulled out a sterile wipe and band-aid, cleaning his hand and putting on the band-aid. "We get plenty of people wanting to foster, but we also need people to come in and take care of the ones here."
-
“Alright,” Nick said with a smile. “Because I’ve been looking for somewhere to vokunteer, and this seems like a great place.”
-
"Yeah, it really is awesome," Karl said with a smile, leaning against the counter and propping himself on it with his arms. "It's a really fun place to work at, honestly."
-
“I bet there’s paperwork I have to sign for that, too, right?” Nick said with a chuckle, flipping a piece of paper over and continuing to write.
-
"Yep," Karl added with a chuckle, searching for the other papers. He hummed as he pulled out a few more papers, sitting down at his chair and opening his laptop. "The application will need to be read over by my boss, so you'll get a call in a few days if it's been accepted."
-
“Alright,” Nick said with a nod, finishing off the first packet of papers, handing them to Karl.
-
Karl took the papers and looked it over, typing in things on his laptop. He hummed softly as he took the packet, opened a filing cabinet and putting it inside a folder. "So, about Bee," he started, turning to the ravenette. "She's got medicine for the wound and medicine for the pain. The medicine for the wound has a paste-like application, so you just put some on in the morning and in the evening before she goes to sleep, and use this to wrap around it." He gestured to the wraps and medication, adding, "but be sure to let it breathe some days, so it can heal quicker."
-
Nick nodded, leaning against the counter slightly, petting Bee a little. “I’ll be sure to do that.”
-
Karl exhaled, reaching over and stroking Bee's long, fluffy ears. "The poor thing, I feel so bad," he mumbled sadly, frowning. "I uh, I had come into work one day, like- before the place opened. And there was a young girl who was frantically pacing the front, like she was waiting for the shop to open." He paused, checking something on his laptop. "So, I walked over and she showed me a rabbit, Bee, in a panic, saying it had been shot. So I called my boss to let her know I was taking this girl and the rabbit to the vet."
-
Nick frowned. “Oh my gosh, that’s awful.” He said softly, studying Bee for a moment. “How long ago was that?”
-
"Well, Bee's been in our shelter for almost a year now, but her getting shot was recent," Karl replied, crossing his arms over his chest anxiously. "I uhm, I had taken Bee out of her crate one day so I could clean it, and she-" He paused, exhaling. "She bolted out of the room and out of the shop, running away. I- I was terrified I would never find her again, and when I saw what happened to her, I-" He sniffled, his voice shaking as he spoke. "f---, I- I'm sorry, I'm not trying to make this a sob story." He chuckled awkwardly, wiping his eyes. "It's- It's not like I tried to purposefully let her loose or anything."
-
Nick frowned. “Yeah, no, that’s definitely not your fault. But I get it, it’s hard not to think it is. But hey, at least you were here to get her to the vet and save her, you know?”
