Jayden yanked his hands back. "D-don't touch me." Don't hurt me was the more accurate thing to say, but Jayd knew he wouldn't be able to say that. He took another step back.

Chester's face fell. He let him move away, heart sinking.

Jayd couldn't take the disappointment on Chester's face. "You get 1 chance to explain yourself." He mumbled, eyes welled up with tears.

Chester felt like crying himself. He hated himself for making Jayden cry. Either telling him everything would make Jayden hate him more or make him forgive him.
It was a risk he was willing to take.
'It was my parents,' he mumbled. 'I-I murdered my parents on accident.' -
Jayden was silent for a minute, trying to make sure he could prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Chester was telling the truth. "H-h-how?" He stammered.

'A-After Maeve's birthday party,' Chester mumbled, hands covering his face. 'The prank we pulled was awesome. But we didn't realize-' he choked up.

Jayden took a small step forward- which was either the bravest or the dumbest thing he'd done in his life. "Yeah?" He asked gently.

Chester hoped he'd taken another step forward and not backward. He couldn't see through his hands. 'The chandelier,' he mumbled. 'When I'd climbed it, I'd loosened the chandelier.'

Jayd's eyes widened. He took another, smaller step forward.

'Then when the guests left, it fell, and-' Chester wished he'd never taken those stupid pills. Then he wouldn't have to say it. 'They didn't make it.'

Jayden winced. His eyes were still filled with tears, but not from distrust anymore- at least, most of them weren't.

Chester moved his hands away from his face to look at Jayden. He reached out slowly, to wipe away his tears.

Jayd let him, trying to calm his own thoughts from screaming 'MURDERER' every 2 seconds.

Chester was too scared to pull him into a hug. He couldn't bare to be pushed away like that again. 'Jayden?'

Jayden looked up, eyes still filled with fear. "Y-yeah?" He asked quietly.
