'I mean, we usually saved the stale bread for eating,' Mildred said, shrugging. 'We just picked the moldy parts out...'

"that bread was probably still moldy. Mold spores actually burrow within the bread and spread out. They spread deep too. You're probably fine, mold isn't the worst spore to eat." Jack said. He loved telling people about his studies on plants that spread via spores

'Well, we took what we could get. I don't like how you said probably, but okay,' Mildred said, rubbing the back of her neck.

Just then Wilhelm stepped outside of the kitchen. "The first course tonight is one of my personal favorites, boiled crayfish and morels." Wilhelm said before setting the table with a large plate of crayfish and mushrooms. He also set down the usual three pitchers water, milk, and water.

Mildred looked over at the food, the smell immediately making her hungry. 'Thank you,' she said, turning her gaze to the chef.

"no problem Ms book keeper." Wilhelm said before walking back to the kitchen. Jack took a deep whiff of the crayfish before picking up five and setting them on the plate with some mushrooms.

Mildred looked back at Jack. 'Is that what they're going to be calling me now?' she asked with a light chuckle, setting a few crayfish and mushrooms on her plate as well.

"of course. Titles help the kingdom determine how to treat someone and what they do. I'm the prone who will become king but in the meanwhile will serve my people. Dukes and duchesses handle militia. Viscounts handle livestock and Marquess handle the metals." Jack said

Mildred nodded thoughtfully. 'Makes sense. It just feels weird being called something that isn't my name.'

"you'll get used to it after awhile." Jack said before breaking into the crayfish. The sauces smelled strongly of comein, chicken stock, and dill. The sauce was savory and slightly spicy. Jack started to dismember the shell with his fangs.

Mildred did the same, except with her knife and fork. 'I suppose,' she said.

"I must admit, while I'm not a fan of river fish this one might be my favorite." Jack said as he used his fork to pull the meat from the shell.

‘River fish? Like, fish in rivers?’ Mildred asked. ‘What’s the difference between that and normal fish?’

"some fish only show up in certain places. River fish swim upstream or downstream for various reasons. There's ocean fish who live in the ocean and there are fish that live in ponds." Jack said.

'Do they taste different or something?' Mildred asked.
