"I'm sure lucresia is excited to make the dress. She actually studies human fashion trends. As for Celie, I'm convinced you two will become great friends." Jack said.
-
‘I’m glad,’ Mildred said happily. ‘I do hope so.’ She paused. ‘What are vampire fashion trends like?’ she asked. ‘Am I asking too many questions? I can shut up if you prefer.’
-
"never let people tell you to shut up when you simply ask questions. Vampire fashion is typically flax spun clothes of solid, muted colors. Currently greens, oranges, and purples are popular." Jack said. He was always wearing black as was typical for mourning. He was required to be in mourning attire until Alexander woke up. He'd gotten used to the color black though, he thought it might be his favorite color.
-
Mildred let a small smile show. ‘Alright. In that case, um, what’s flax?’ she asked sheepishly. She’d have to educate herself tomorrow. It was getting tiresome not understanding every other thing that was mentioned.
-
"well, it's a sort of waxy fabric made by reducing flax stalks into fibers which are then spun together and made into clothes." Jack said. Flax was easy to grow around the kingdom and he even grew flax in the garden when he still maintained the garden by himself.
-
‘Cool,’ Mildred said, smiling. She sat down on the stool, rested her chin in the palm of her hand and her elbow on her knee. ‘So, um, what now?’
-
"now I suppose we should find out what a keeper of the books does. Maybe you could sort the library? Or keep some sort of record?" Jack suggested. A title was powerful and usually it meant something to stay important.
-
Mildred shrugged. ‘I dunno. Perhaps it could be a fancy name for a librarian or something. Except it’s not really a library, just a large room full of books.’
-
"that sounds applicable. You're the castle librarian. I'm sure there's a record of the books in the library somewhere in the study. I'll find it eventually." Jack said.
-
‘I can help,’ Mildred offered.
-
"I wouldn't want you going into my study, it's messy and has books of my poetry which are... Embarrassing to say the least." Jack said. In his immortality there were only so many books to read so of course he'd try to write one. However, jack considered any writing he did a massive failure
-
Mildred pouted a little. ‘Now I really wanna read them,’ she said, half jokingly.
-
"Mildred, I'd rather burn those poems than ever have them seen by another pair of eyes." Jack said. He was aware of the edginess of the poetry he'd written and seeing that for himself was enough
-
Not a very funny joke, then.
‘Alright,’ Mildred said. ‘Fair enough, I guess. But I’m sure your poetry can’t have been that bad.’ She liked reading other people’s work, but she remembered how much her father never wanted her or Albert to even touch the papers on his desk, so she supposed it must’ve been like that. -
"those poems are worse than the rulings of the king of England." Jack said. He'd read a lot about England and none of it was good. He'd also heard lots from the faefolk
