Jack waited at the door still. "That one is a traitor, he tried to overthrow me by using the argument that I was trying to get rid of king Alexander. The others in the kingdom were not amused by him even talking about my brother as of he could be replaced." Jack said staring into the darkness of the underground prison
-
Mildred frowned. She walked the rest of the way up and stood next to him. ‘That’s horrible,’ she said, looking at the prisoner with a look of disrespect. She clenched her jaw then looked back at Jack.
-
"it happens. Those traitors believe we should take over the human kingdoms and use all of you as blood slaves. I do not condone it but I do not have much room to talk in that regard. I might be forced to partake of human blood but I have never believed in such a cruel thing as slavery, though I can't say much in that regard either considering why you were brought here in the first place. In any case, I apologize for this sensitive subject." Jack said as he closed the door.
-
Mildred shrugged. ‘Don’t apologise. But I do ask, what is blood slavery?’ she asked. ‘Like, capturing others to be bled dry or being bled dry themselves?’ She paused. ‘And why was a brought here again?’
-
I* DAMMIT lol)
-
"blood slaves are drained to the point that they are soon to die, then we replenish their blood so we essentially have infinite blood from some poor human who can't run away. You were only brought as a sacrifice which is where you are simply bled dry. It is cruel either way but we cannot quite change our nature. We have substitutions but most substitutions don't work on royal vampires, and we require live blood every 5 years to truly sustain our life." Jack said. It was an uncomfortable subject matter to talk about with humans, and a cause of many controversy among vampires.
-
Mildred clenched her jaw. She looked away, and had no reply to that. Just the thought of such a thing made her stomach twist.
-
"I apologize." Jack said. He started walking towards the throne room. He did not want to linger beside the dungeon.
-
‘It’s fine,’ Mildred said quietly, following after him like a puppy.
-
"we have evolved from mindlessly attempting to conquer but traitors have a way with words. They claim that Alexander would conquer the human kingdom for us, and I claim he wouldn't. The people will believe me for now but it is hard to keep their trust." Jack said. He looked out of the window to the waning moon.
-
‘It’s not like humans are more powerful than your kind, anyway,’ Mildred said. ‘Most don’t even hold a weapon. You could bleed me dry within minutes and I could do nothing but run. Why would they want to conquer so bad?’
-
"the reasons are unpleasant, the conquering means that we can do whatever we may dictate to your kingdom. It is a common practice of a certain island kingdom that has built a sort of empire." Jack said.
-
‘A just empire or a bad one?’ Mildred asked, frowning. She didn’t want to ask what the reasons were.
-
"in my eye, all human empires are bad because your rulers are unjust. It is difficult to tell if they are any different." Jack said
-
Mildred looked around at instinctively, as if expecting human guards to be around. ‘Yes, I suppose you’re right,’ she said. ‘Not all of them are unjust, though. There’s a kingdom in a south that allowed humans and… other things to roam free.
