"a Southern kingdom? I heard they're very warm. I once had a tutor that taught me about a sort of line around the world that dictates how long summers and winters are. She told me most kingdoms to the south have long summers." Jack said. He hadn't cared much for geography seeing as there were few non human kingdoms out of the continent.
-
Mildred blinked. She had been to school in her younger years, but never had she heard of long summers in the south. ‘Um, cool,’ she said, in a tone making it quite clear she didn’t understand. She’d have to read up on it later, she decided.
-
"there's a kingdom in the west filled with wild magic and forests. They say that the human kingdoms there are still in their primitive stage. I think that primitive society is in some ways purer than the human societies here, however I would not wish for the lack of luxuries." Jack said.
-
Mildred shrugged. ‘It’s all the same to me. I lived in a large kingdom, where the king resides. The king is in charge of the human civilisation in this country. The other towns, where he doesn’t often visit, I think tend to be safer.’
-
"safe from the king, not the nobles. They would seek to exploit those who make their grain. My brother has told me of this and I have read about it in my books." Jack said. He opened the door of the throne room. There was a distinct feeling of being watched in this room.
-
‘Oh. I didn’t consider that,’ Mildred said with a sigh. ‘Why is the throne room so big of all you do is sit, by the way?’
-
"well, it doubles as a ballroom." Jack said. He then sighed. "My brother used to host the most elaborate balls every blood moon. He would bring all sorts of curiosities and marvels. Everyone would be there, and many brought gifts. Every noble and nouve rich would bring one and other creatures of the night would attend." Jack reminisced.
-
Mildred’s face lit up. ‘That sounds amazing,’ she said. She could only dream of such things. ‘You should host a ball!’ Mildred suggested. ‘It’d be wonderful!’
-
"well, I suppose it would be fun, but I have no curiosities to show unless... Well... Unless you'd be okay with being watched by the vampires of this kingdom." Jack said. He figured that part would be a deal breaker.
-
‘What do you mean?’ Mildred asked, cocking her head to the side.
-
"a ball in honor of you, Mildred. We could give you some sort of title, like, ambassador of the humans or keeper of books, and we could get you aquatinted with the nobles of the kingdom. However, I fully understand if you would rather not do so." Jack said. every ball in the kingdom was held with something to show for it. If he had one for no reason it would upset his subjects.
-
Mildred grinned, probably bigger than she had in a while. ‘Of course! I mean, of course I want to! That’d be absolutely amazing!’
-
"well then Mildred, welcome up the vampire ranks. With a title, the others will be much, much less likely to attack in any way. Oh, we should probably also get you a ball gown. It has been years since this kingdom has seen the castle in style." Jack said. He was smiling about as happily as he was just a while earlier.
-
‘That would be amazing,’ Mildred breathed, holding her hands to her chest. ‘All of it. Thank you so much!’
-
"there's no need to thank me, this is as much a gift for me as it is for you. These parties are the funnest thing to happen to the palace." Jack said cheerfully. He pulled a string that dangled from the ceiling and a group of servants started to pool into the room.
