Mildred blushed lightly. ‘Oh, shut your mouth,’ she said, but smiled a little when she noticed Jack’s smile.
-
"it is like a storybook." Jack said.
-
‘Some kind of cliche fairytale, don’t you think? Like the story of Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty, or that one with Belle and the Beast,’ Mildred said.
-
"similar. Most similar to beauty and the beast but instead of a hairy monster with talking furniture it's a vampire prince with several vampires." Jack said
-
‘True. And the entire town disapproves of their friendship, the beast or vampire prince is perceived as heartless and scary, but he’s actually just moody,’ Mildred teased, nudging Jack.
-
"the moodiest man in the kingdom." Jack said, giggling
-
‘The moody vampire and the, uh, peasant human,’ Mildred said.
-
"the peasant human who knows how to read. That's how I would title you." Jack said
-
‘I think Belle likes reading. It’s been a while since I read that book.’ Mildred reached up and ruffled his hair. ‘Now you just need to grow out your hair and we’ll be the perfect duo.’
-
"just two misunderstood people." Jack said, blushing as Mildred ruffled his hair.
-
Mildred smiled, linking arms with him.
-
Jack and Mildred were now standing in front of homely little stall on the street next to some candle shops. It smelled like citrus and honey.
-
Mildred looked around, fascinated by the shops, stalls, and the people walking around.
-
Many vampires around the booth were admiring the candle stalls. Some held rabbit kebabs that smelled similar to chicken. One stall had an odd cauldron full of hot oil.
-
Mildred looked back at Jack. ‘Where to, prince? You know the street food culture better than I do.’
