Mildred chuckled a little and ate her fry. ‘That’s fair enough. I haven’t cooked much.’

"cooking isn't my strong suit either. I almost cut off my finger peeling potatoes once." Jack said, chuckling

‘Oh, wow,’ Mildred laughed. ‘I wasn’t allowed to help with cooking.’

"why not?" Jack asked, raising his eyebrows as he ate a fried mushroom

‘I was too young, I guess. And I once spilt a pot of boiling water on my father’s foot. He didn’t quite like that,’ Mildred laughed, grabbing another fry.

"ow." Jack remarked. He once accidentally dunked his finger in boiling water and it stung so bad he lost his bloodthirst for a week.

‘Yeah. Ow,’ Mildred chuckled, grabbing another fry. ‘Where are we walking, prince?’

"well, we were going to get some orange candies before I got us sidetracked so I thought we should pick up at least a small batch so you could try them." Jack said

Mildred smiled. ‘Sounds good to me,’ she said. She found everything in the vampire kingdom fascinating, it was all so new and different.

Jack walked up to a stall that smelled like freshly peeled oranges and cinnamon. This store owner was much less irritable. "Two oranges or one candle per item." The old woman said as they walked up to the window

Mildred followed Jack and stood a little behind him. She looked around, then at the woman.

Jack smiled and handed the old woman a red candles that smelled lightly like honeysuckles. The old woman seemed delighted as she handed the pair a bag of orange hard candies that seemed to have something in the center.

Mildred watched the exchange curiously. She made a mental note to find a book on vampire economics when they got back to the castle.

Jack took a candy from the bag and offered it to Mildred. "Here they are. We like to call them honey oranges but they also have cinnamon." Jack said

Mildred took the candy and inspected it. 'It looks cool,' she said, taking a nibble. 'Ooh, its sweet.'
