‘They had it coming, though. What were you supposed to do?’ Mildred frowned, looking up at him. ‘I would’ve thought you’d be popular because you’re his brother.’

"they cared that I was Alexander's brother but because Alexander was so exceptional they expect me to be better. It's like trying to outshine the moon. Executions don't help no matter how ruthless the criminal." Jack said

Mildred nodded, looking around at the people around them curiously. ‘How strange. Humans enjoy executions. Well, the nobility do, anyway,’ she said. ‘Your people seem unreasonable.’

"watching death is less fun when you have to kill to live." Jack said

‘Wouldn’t they have fed from the blood from the bodies?’ Mildred asked. ‘Then they’d be happy?’

"they liked the blood but they feared the brutality. I can't blame them. You don't throw stones at your persecuted until they die." Jack said. He wasn't familiar with the fact that stoning was not something his parents came up with.

‘Hm, I suppose,’ Mildred said. She didn’t quite understand how the vampires were so… merciful, but even that didn’t seem like the right word. -
"oh right, you haven't tried the fries yet." Jack said, holding the fries out to Mildred.

Mildred grabbed one of the fried and nibbled on it. ‘Oh, that’s good.’

"i know, right. They're very popular in terms of street food." Jack said happily.

Mildred grabbed another one. ‘I see why.’

"they tend to taste different depending on certain factors but they're almost always a treat. Admittedly thought, they're a tad bit unhealthy." Jack rambled.

‘Mm, good to know. We should get Wilhelm to make these sometimes,’ Mildred said.

"Wilhelm could, but he's terrified of the oil. It tends to jump. It certainly scared him when I taught him how to fry everything in the kitchen." Jack said
