‘Alright,’ Mildred said, picking out a light green ribbon to match her dress. She held it between her fingers as she pulled her hair up in a ponytail and used it to tie it. ‘I haven’t done this for a while-‘
-
"your hair is quite healthy for hair you were unable to take care of for awhile. Mildred, what's your favorite color?" Jack asked.
-
‘Thank you,’ Mildred said, tying an english knot and a small bow. ‘Hm, probably light blue. Or light purple. Why?’
-
"I could ask jezebel to make your new dresses those colors. I am a personal fan of colors. Y'know, it's common for us vampires to be colorblind." Jack said.
-
Mildred smiled. ‘That’d be amazing,’ she said happily, finishing off her bow. ‘Why’s that?’
-
"well, if I had a theory, it's evolution. Vampires can't go into sunlight so it makes sense we see less of the spectrum of light." Jack said
-
‘Ah, that makes sense. And you’ve only seen the sun once, I presume. You’ve never seen a rainbow before, have you? Oh, and speaking of light, how’s that sunburn?’ Mildred said.
-
"well, first, what's a rainbow? As for my sunburn it's healing well. All that it is now is my skin has been shedding a bit." Jack said
-
‘You don’t know what a rainbow is?!’ Mildred exclaimed. She practically jumped towards the desk and grabbed a few ribbons, all the colours of the rainbow. She arranged them on the desk in order. ‘The shedding is normal, by the way. So basically, just after it rains or when the sun reflects on water in a weird way these rainbows appear in the sky. It’s some kind of illusion with something to do with light refraction or whatever, but they’re arches that appear in the air sometimes. They’re very colourful and kind of look like this.’ She gestured to the rainbow of coloured ribbons on the desk she’d put in order.
-
"they kind of look like the bubble gradient." Jack said
-
‘I suppose so. But still. Have all the vampires never seen a rainbow? Nevermind, that’s a dumb question.’
-
"it's not dumb. My brother once told me of a light arch that he wished I could see. He was able to go out in the day after all." Jack said.
-
‘Oh yeah, I remember you saying that,’ Mildred said. ‘Maybe, if you’re willing to get sunburnt again, I can show you one sometime.’
-
"I think I can't brave that pretty, scary ball of fire to see what it has to offer." Jack said. The sun itself wasn't fully scary... Fully. It was deadly for the most part and would burn off layers of your skin but it was pretty.
-
Mildred chuckled. ‘Fair enough. It’s not that scary- I mean, it probably is for you since, y’know, you’d die. Minor issues, though.’
