Collins smiled, watching them. ‘How did you find out you can mimic stuff?’ she asked Florence.

Florence watched the grackles. "It started with the birds. I didn't always speak English. The creator actually spoke Russian, and some researchers spoke Italian, some spoke Spanish and there were even some speaking Portuguese. So instead of starting with any human language I learned how to talk to the birds by repeating their calls." Florence said.

‘That’s… actually really cool,’ Collins said, following his gaze to the grackles. ‘So how’d you learn English, then?’

"when the creator realized I wasn't speaking in any human language, but I was picking up on the birds, he decided to tell the other researchers to only speak to me in one language for awhile. They decided on English." Florence said. He stuck his hand out of the window and mimicked a grackle in the crowd. It flew right into his hand

Collins nodded, watching the grackle fly into his hand. ‘You don’t know any other languages, then?’

"I actually learned a few other languages. The creator liked to talk to me in Russian and the assistant researcher tried to teach me Japanese, but he was actually pretty bad at it." Florence said. He mimicked another grackle call and a different bird brought him a little button pin.

Collins chuckled watching. She tucked away the remainder of her peanut butter sandwich half. ‘Japanese is hard. I tried to learn it on Duolingo a while ago, but it wasn’t worth it.’

"I've never heard of Duolingo, is it fun?" Florence asked as he examined the button the grackle gave him. It was for an old event, or so it seemed.

‘It’s an app for learning languages,’ Collins said, stretching. She shuffled next to him to look at what the grackle had given him. ‘What’s that?’

"they give me pretty things sometimes." Florence said. The button read "blood drive 2018 little saint's day" in bold, neon lettering.

‘I heard some birds find shiny things and give it to the people who are nice to them,’ Collins said. ‘Not sure how true it is, though.’

"it's a thank you from the birds on account of some people being real mean. I also help them out. Sometimes they ask me to help find bugs and when I help them find bugs they give me even cooler stuff." Florence said happily. The grackle in his hand hopped twice before looking at Collins at tilting it's head the way Florence often did when he was confused.

Collins looked at the bird and tilted her own head at it. ‘Like what?’

"you want to see my treasure?" Florence asked excitedly. He was very fond of his treasures but there was one item he knew he had to show Collins.

Collins looked away from the bird and at him. ‘Sure, I have nothing better to do.’
